Saturday long run

This was never going to be a good run, it’s been a long week at work with a 15 hour day yesterday, as I work from a van all my meals where from Greggs, Maccies etc - they’re nutritious aren’t they?

Anyway my training plan called for 27-29km, knew that was going to be hard and would be happy with a metric marathon, which is also a 10% mileage increase on last weeks long run.

I could so easily have jacked it at 5k - however a slow 26.3km was achieved, although the final 5k was really slow and my HR well into Z5!

Roll on less work and more sleep for next weeks long run.

7 weeks to go until Manchester Marathon and I’m still not sure if this is one (or several thousand) step too far.

Really well done Reggit! It’s challenging to balance long work weeks with these long runs. Now you can rest up and recover.

Well done, such unimaginably long distances for someone like me. I've only just in the last week joined Strava but I think I'm now following you. Good luck.

Well done! Your heading for new ground which always plays tricka with your head. After a week like you had, that was as much mental training as physical. Great job 👏

Wow it sounds like quite a tough week yet you still got out and ran 26.3km, that’s amazing - well done! I hope your next run is after an easier week. 💪🏻👏🏻 you got this!

Well done, at least you saw it through! Do you wear a chest strap? It might be worth investing in one, sometimes a watch can give spurious results.

Yes, Garmin Pro Plus strap. The sensor on the watch is a bit spurious. Keep meaning to seek advice from Garmin, bit it doesn’t worry me too much.

The Z5 was genuine and I definitely felt it - dehydrated and really tired…

I have the same strap and use a back pack for my lsr's as well. I did a 23k for my training yesterday after doing a parkrun the day before and my readings were creeping into Z3. I wasn't worried as I wanted to average about 6 mins/k.

Marathon LSRs should probably be in Z2 regardless of pace, that might be hard to achieve when you start your training but should be doable towards the end.

Conditions and tiredness is also a factor. Don't be afraid to walk if hr gets too high, yours was near the end. But I've had plenty of runs where mine has been too high from the beginning and have walked until it slowed down, only for it to jump back up again when I start 🤣.
