My phone is very old now and my husband dug out an unused one still in its box to “replace” my decrepit iPhone.
My iPhone is full of photos, messages blah blah and generally like an overstuffed sideboard ☺️
I thought about using the empty shiny new one just for running with Nike Run Club app 🤷♀️ Keeping it super tidy and uncluttered. It’s a Samsung A20. I’d need another Sim ? I have no idea about the pitfalls, ins and outs. I asked my husband if it was a stupid idea but he couldn’t be bothered to go down the rabbit hole with me 😀 He has several phones on the go so I know it’s a thing 🤓
I don’t want to unseal the box if it’s a no-go.
I’m on PAYG if that has anything to do with things
Could you help me she’d light on my idea💡?
Thanks in anticipation 🫣

My initial thought is that my watch has no mobile signal, but uses bluetooth and GPS so that Garmin can fully record my runs. So maybe you can use NRC without a SIM and still get everything recorded. How about first taking the SIM out of your current phone and seeing if NRC will still work and record everything.
If that doesn't work, try turning off mobile data on your current phone and see if it works as you want. If it does, then any old PAYG sim, with mobile data turned off, should work and have no running cost.
If your sim is iPhone, it may not fit an android phone. But a cheap sim preloaded (say £10) available from supermarkets etc would be good if you just want it for emergencies while running. If you download the NRC runs at home before going out means less roaming not needed. I’d certainly give it a try.
and you can have the app on several devices so long as you use the same log in
The other possibility is to get a cheap SIM from one of the resellers of mobile services, eg. Giffgaff, Lebara, Smarty. A fiver a month would cover much of your needs and provide the ability to call out the troops if you have a problem. (Sometimes PAYG SIMs work out more expensive than month-by-month SIM-only contracts nowadays.)
