Today marked the end of our first week on Scilly. We have had a visit from a very close friend who now lives in Australia; he was very close to our daughter going back to their school days, so it was nice to sit and just share stories. There have been lots of long walks, boat trips, cafe stops and nice sunsets. The temperature has been 18c at most, which I am sure is helpful.
I have managed 3 runs so far, 2x5k and one a timed 1 hour run (8.35k.) The atmosphere around my evening run tonight was just magical. I have no idea why, but my VO2 max has gone up to 44 and my average heart rate has gone down regardless of pace and gradients. I am just running freestyle; no plan, no objectives, just putting one foot in front of the other, taking in the scenery, dodging around the ducks and watching swallows swoop around me as I run between the high hedges. In short, I am having fun runs!
Off to our favourite coffee spot tomorrow. I could get used to this.🙂I hope everyone is enjoying their runs too. Don’t forget to yell out if you are running a race in July; we love to cheer people on through the Pom Pom post (see the pinned post).

This place is always just what we need. It just helps slide deeper into chilled mode the longer we are here.
We are both watching the football. We are not fair weather supporters; have to be behind the team through thick and thin. The knock out stages are always lots more exciting than the group stage.
I had been hoping to hear that you had had positive news from the London Marathon.
We’re watching too, have the all important wall chart, and I’m in charge of our family sweepstakes, giving daily updates, our current points standings and who’s playing who next. Next up is the grandsons vs our son in both matches! We have 4 teams each ((grandsons 4 between them). It’s a hoot!
Sounds absolutely idyllic 😍 We are currently in South West Scotland where it is, perhaps inevitably, cool, wet and windy. Feeling very envious of the warm conditions further south. No running (until Ayr parkrun on Saturday) but walks and bike rides and generally chilling!
🙂 At least the cool weather will keep the midges down (or is that a myth?). Generally chilling after all you have been through is just what is needed. Bed time for me now 🙂
Sounds like you are in heaven Beachcomber66 . Gentle running without a care , and soaking up the sea views. Wow 44 VO2max is very good. I seem to have become a superior 38 again, not sure how that happened!
Thanks Shakes. The eye of heaven isn’t burning too hot here thankfully; it is just right. Our lease is up next Thursday, so plenty of time to enjoy the place yet.🙂
11k this morning; up and down hill but easier than my usual trails. Steady 125 AHR, and 7:09/k pace and total ascent 125m. I might be at risk of finding some fitness 😂
Magical fun runs sounds lovely. I've never seen a 44 VO2 max, whether it is all a bit of nonsense or not, it must be an extra bonus. Continue having fun 😊🏃🏻♂️
🙂I would rather VO2 max was increasing than decreasing, but that is about it. My left knee(the one I had all the trouble with about 4 years ago) has been giving me the odd little twinge today. Probably walking/climbing on tough territory to blame. Will keep an eye on it 👀; or maybe two 👍
