Last year when I ran my 2nd half marathon in memory of the late great Tim I thought to myself that I would run one more next year in 2023, so I ran my 3rd HM this morning, of course it wasn't all running, I ran the first 3K and last 3K, in between it was 1K run, 1K walk, altogether I completed that HM in a time of 3:04:13.
Almorr 3rd Half marathon : Last year... - Fun Beyond 10K & ...
Almorr 3rd Half marathon
I hadn't appreciated that Tim had passed during the time I was away, so definite mixed emotions reading this.
Well done on the effort. And to mis-paraphrase the song, it doesn't matter how you get there, just get there anyway.
It was very sad that Tim passed away in November 2022, last year the administrators asked regular runners on this forum to run a special run in memory of Tim, I ran that Half Marathon in a time of 2:57:30., this morning I decided to run/walk my 3rd HM, from now on I won't be running any more than 10Ks, thanks sTrongFuse ✔️👍
That was round about the time I had covid, so even if I'd known, I wouldn't have been able to have taken part. Hopefully I will get back up to that distance in the not too distant future and I can dedicate my next one to him.
it sounds like you had a really tough time sTrongFuse . It’s good to have you back on the forum again.
just in case you wasn’t to read this:
Well done, Al! A fantastic effort! How did you feel afterwards? 👏👏👏👍
Thanks Jools2020, I didn't feel as knackered as last year or even two weeks ago when I ran my only 10 miles run of this year non stop without any walking breaks, I did walk a little more this morning than last year hence not feeling too tired.
Walking breaks are great! I do both. Some of my runs are without stopping as I’m working on building up my endurance for that. But I do go on Jeffing runs as well, although my walking breaks are much shorter. Believe it if not, if I walk too fast for too long I get injured!
Remember that I walked/ran alternate kilometers from K4 to K 18, the fastest walk time was 9.55K/min, the fastest run time was 7.12K/min, 5K split time was 41:50, 10K split 1:26:11, 16K split 2:20:18 I was tempted to run the last 5K at that point to perhaps get sub 3 hours but I kept to my plan to only run the last 3K plus a little more to make up the full HM, so that's 3 HM distances I have done in 3 years, two years ago I walked 21.97 kilometers, ran the last 2 kilometers in a time of 3:18:15, last year 2:57:30 with not much walking and today, as I say from now on my runs won't be longer than 10K.
It’s a similar time to my only half marathon in 2020. Mine was mainly running, but I did have to walk to drink or eat. I think I finished just a couple of minutes slower than you, but all the split times were similar. I’m trying to build up to running distances again, but I’m not sure if I’m going to do another half marathon!
Fantastic, very well done Al! 🎉👏👏👏 hope you're treating yourself to something yummy after your third half marathon 😊
Thanks Beatlesforever, I certainly did treat myself to something yummy, there is a McDonald's less than a mile away from where I finished my HM this morning, I went in and treated myself to a sausage egg McMuffin and a ice cold strawberry milk shake, later this afternoon I will eat my ice cream chocolate swirl which I usually eat after my mid week run in the morning.
Congratulations on your 3rd half marathon Al. You are an inspiration 👏👏😊
Thank you very much Sandie1961 ✔️👍
Fantastic Al! Really well done on your 3rd HM. There's a lot to be said in favour of walking breaks. I bet that egg McMuffin and strawberry milkshake tasted good! And a chocolate swirl ice cream too 😋
Thanks Birdlady64, they certainly did taste good after my HM run this morning, on a Wednesday when I usually run a more normal run of 5 or 10K I always eat my chocolate swirl ice cream when I get home usually around 9.30/10.30, however, after my just over 3 hours run I went to McDonald's, I haven't yet ate the swirl but just after 3pm I am going to eat a late lunch of chips, mince and mushy peas followed by that chocolate ice cream swirl, a bit later than normal because of that long run this morning.
Brilliant Al, that sounds like a really great run
Great run Al, we mature runners just keep on going 🙂. I always feel exceptionally hungry after a long run or swimming session….if we run often enough we can eat what we like 😋. You are an absolute star.🙂🏆
Thanks BC66, I think I will call it a day regarding Half Marathons, that's 3 in 3 years as explained elsewhere, I will stick to my favourite distances of 3,5,8 and 10K runs,
The only reason for doing further HMs would be an irresistible urge Al. I have run three too. The first one was by accident; I ran a slow 10 miles, found I could keep going, so I did! The second was on 14 September 2021 for charity and for my daughter, and the third was this year for the HUHM….that one was just because I could and I wasn’t going to let Covid-19 stop me 🙂. I ran 8 miles yesterday and felt really tired for the rest of the day. Maybe the cold start to the day didn’t help…..Bottom line, I think that we both want to keep enjoying our runs for as long as we can.👊
Well done Al! Did you plan to run it today or was it something you thought you’d do once you started?
Thanks IP, I planned to run one 10 miles run this year which I ran two weeks and one half marathon in 2023, I thought of a plan to Jeff it, run/walk, if I could run at the pace I run 5K or 10K I could probably run a 10 miles run in around 1 hour 55 minutes and a half marathon sub 2 hours 30 but I have to slow down usually after 12K in any of those runs over 12K, from now on I won't be running any more runs longer than 10K.
Great job Al! Well done 💪🙂🏃♂️
Mission accomplished. Tim would be proud of you ✊
Thanks misswobble, after today's run I felt a little less tired than last year, maybe because I did do a little more walking and avoided the hills of last year's run.
You’ve got more miles on your legs since last year 🙂🏃♂️
If you do some hill running it makes running on the flat seem easier.
I agree with that misswobble, I know that hill running makes it easier running on the flat, I do run up hills but if they are very steep I walk quickly up them
Fantastic achievement and run/walk you finished it and should he so proud 🥹 well done 👏🏻👏🏻
You’re our champion Al. You put your mind to something and it’s as good as done! Brilliant. Hope you’re having a lovely relaxing evening now. ❤️
Thank you very much cheekychipmunks , me a champion, mm, well 😘, anyway I almost never got to run at all today. On Tuesday afternoon after I had done a few kettle bell exercises blood started to come out of my mouth, I got the fright of my life, had I strained something inside me or somehow or another bit my tongue, the bleeding gradually eased as the evening went on, complety stopped at 9.30, it's not nice when blood suddenly appears without warning, I think it was my tongue I bit during the excersise, not something inside me that I strained, I have been using kettle bells for years, even before I started running, that has never happened before, everything else is fine including that run today, I hope you and Flossie had a great day on Sunday at The Great South Run ✔️.
Oh my word, what a scare Al. I’m so relieved it stopped and it was indeed a simple biting of the tongue. 😳 I can imagine how alarming that must have been for you. Great that you were able to complete your HM. 👏🙏 🏃♂️
You certainly are our champion, always encouraging others. And yes thanks, Flossie and I (and Mr Cheeky) thoroughly enjoyed our weekend in Portsmouth for the GSR. 😀
Wow Al, go you!!! That's fantastic 👏👏👏
What an EPIC achievement Sir Alan ⭐ Absolutely phenomenal effort. I hope you had something good to eat and drink after 😊
Thanks Dean and Natasha, I enjoyed the run, after I finished I went into the nearest McDonald's and bought a single McMuffin cheese and sausage burger and a ice cold strawberry milk shake, yummy. 😊 🏃🏾 ✔️
Very well done Al. A sound run x
Thanks Oldfloss ✔️✔️🏃♂️
I am back up to Week 6 Run 2, ( repeat), now Al... on my build back up to running strength... Slow and steady and enjoying it immensely! ..I am looking forward to some longer runs but HMs are a very long way off I feel
Glad that you enjoyed run 2 of week 6 of C25K Floss, so happy too that Mr Oldfloss is also keeping well, I think from now on 10K will be my longest running distance.
Congratulations AlMorr , that’s an amazing way to see out your long running season, and i hope you managed to get it in before the latest storm hit Scotland. Keep warm and dry. 🏃♂️⚡️💨💦
Thank you very much Dexy5, only one 10 miles run this year which I ran two weeks ago in a time of 2:10:30 and one HM which I ran yesterday, I think from now on 10K will be my longest distance. The most severe weather will be further north east from where I live in Central Scotland no red or amber warning for my area, just a more normal yellow warning for wind and rain ☔
That's great AlMorr and in a really good time too, congratulations! 😁💪x
congratulations on your 3rd half marathon. I’m still trying to get to my first! Hope your chocolate swirl tasted extra delicious 🤤
Congratulations on your third HM Awesome Al! 👍👏👏
So looking forward to summer Al, it's been a wet and windy Winter and Spring so far. As far as the All Blacks go I have mixed feelings, being born in the UK and with Irish grandparents makes it interesting wondering who to cheer for sometimes 😀
Well done Al, that's a fantastic achievement! Also, the way you have broken down the distance with some walking, is a great plan, and may well inspire others to follow suit!
Have a good day and enjoy yet another running milestone. Best wishes ☺️
What a wise plan to tackle the run in sections like you did Al. It's a wonderful achievement 👏👏
Well done Al, lovely sentiment and one I would definitely like to follow (I needed a reason to do a HM in November) if that’s ok. Can’t believe it’s nearly a year - that has flown by!
It is almost a year since Tim died, we all ran a special run in his memory, I am wondering if the administrators will ask us to run a special run on the occasion of a year since Tim died, if so I'll run a 10K not a HM.
Well done ALMorr. A special run for a special person. Hope you had a dry day for your HM . 👏😊
Thanks Doris8, the weather was dry on Wednesday for my 3rd HM, it was last year that I ran my second HM for a special person who was Tim (IannodaTruffe) who sadly died last November, the administrators asked the regular runners on this forum to run a special run in Tim's memory, I ran that Half Marathon, I am wondering if the administrators will ask us runners to run on the occasion of Tim's passing one year ago this November, if so I'll run a 10K, not a HM.
Amazing! Very well done. A HM seems way out of my reach as yet.
Congratulations on your 3rd half marathon! 🏅 here's a little bling as a reward! It's not easy doing a solo HM. Did you listen to music as you ran?
Brisk walk breaks are really useful aren't they? I used them for the first time in the Severn Bridge 10k this year and was only a couple of minutes slower than last year when I ran it all. -seems like you had a similar experience when comparing your HM times over the last 2 years.
Congratulations again !
Thank you very much for the bling Week 7, no I didn't listen to music, I didn't even have my metromone app with me, the weather was cloudy but dry with a temperature of 11C, because of the walking breaks it didn't make sense to have that app with me for that particular run, I was only 7 minutes slower than last year but less tired probably due to more walking breaks this year. 😊
Great to have your news, Al. That must have been so satisfying.
Wonderful on another HM run AlMorr ! 🙂👏👏
Thanks Sandra 39, 3rd but probably the last, from now on I will run my favourite distances which are 3K, what I call a maintenance run, of course 5K, I also like running 8Ks as most of those runs are just under a hour, I now have ran 44/10Ks, from now on 10K will be my longest distance.
I really haven’t been looking at for forumAl so had missed your post - huge well done to you on another HM!
Thank you very much Oldgirlruns, that HM on Wednesday was a promise I made to myself last year to run one ten mile run and one half marathon in 2023, I have now ran both over a period of a fortnight, by the way I ran my 99th parkrun this morning, next week number 💯
well done! You did it and it doesn't matter how long it took, and you always have to have something nice to treat yourself with afterwards, that's a must!!i😀
