We have VRBs running from one end of the country to the other and we even have a famous double act running overseas, so get those pompoms fluffed up and ready to rock βn roll π₯³ππ All the races are on Sunday.
βοΈ First up is the overseas race and itβs a biggie! Our Fearsome Twosome Β TailChaser and Β Katnap will be tackling the Amsterdam Marathon!
The start and finish will take place in the historical Olympic Stadium! What an amazing finish that is going to be guys π₯³ The route is packed with interesting buildings, the Rijks Museum, Museum of the Tropics and the Amstel Hotel to name a few. Lots to see on the way and lots of atmosphere to soak up. We canβt wait to read your race reports afterwards.
βοΈ Weβre moving from Amsterdam to Portsmouth next where we will find a flurry of VRBs tackling the Great South Run. This is becoming a habit guys!
Running this fast 10 mile route, and no doubt meeting up as well at some stage, are Β cheekychipmunks , Β UpTheStanley , Β Dexy5 , Β linda9389 , Oldgirlruns , David_G , Sandie1961 and Mudita11
The GSR βstarts and finishes on the glorious seafront, the route offers a run through history passing iconic landmarks including the Historic Dockyard, HMS Victory and Southsea Castle along with breathtaking views of the Isle of Wight.β
Sounds fab. Good luck to you all and happy meeting up too π₯°
βοΈ From South England we head further North to Yorkshire where Β runningdad will be running the Yorkshire Marathon!
This is the 10th anniversary of the Yorkshire Marathon so there will be loads of entertainment and a festival to celebrate all things running.
Along the route, pipe bands and choirs will keep the runners entertained as they take in the stunning views of ancient York, including York Minster, and its neighbouring countryside. A race and a year to remember by all acccounts. Enjoy all the celebrations runningdad.
βοΈ From Yorkshire we move to the South West where weβll find Β Marymumto2 running the Bath Half Marathon. This is a beautiful route with honey-coloured buildings and streets where Jane Austen once strolled. There will be bands and motivating music along the gorgeous roads of the World Heritage City of Bath. The crowd support is famously enthusiastic! Whatβs not to love?
I am the only drop out βΉοΈ! No, I knew I wouldnβt make it this yearπ. I also know that they will have a whale of a time; Special Constables required I should think with plenty of competitors for the Miss or Mr Legless Award! Have a blast everyone; hope to catch you sometime in 2024ππππππ
Don't forget I'm also 'absent without leave' BC! Sorry to miss out on the GSR this year due to recent hernia repair - best of luck to all running this weekend.
I havenβt forgotten you JP. I was thinking about the night before shenanigans when I posted. I should definitely have mentioned you though! My profound apologies.
I met you for the first time last year and that was a real privilege. You are definitely another absent friend this year and we all wish you a speedy recovery now that you have put your op behind you. Hopefully you will be popping up at pompey park runs, running shoes on and producing amazing times before you know it. Not being able to run is just plain miserable! ππ»
No problem BC - it was great to meet you too last year! Funny you should mention parkrun, I've just got back - definitely walking only this week though!
No physio - I'm just going to build up slowly and see how things go. Pre-hernia I was getting some knee twinges - will be interesting to find out if they're still there!
Optimistic view; the knee niggle was caused by a change to running form compensating for the developing hernia. In which case it may well have gone by now.π€π€π€πΆπΌπΆπ΅Always look on the bright side of life β¦..π
You could always try my physio advised 10/15 minute hot water bottle knee warm up (legs stretched out in front of you) followed by gentle massage of the knee cap to help generate synovial fluid. It always works for me.
Whoo hoo! "I got my head checked π΅πΌand something about jumbo jets?" Go Sandie and Mudita and the GSR crew and cool TC's and Kats have a wonderful time and many of these π₯π₯π₯x
Thanks for the shout-out IP! Good luck to our intrepid marathon travellers Β Β TailChaser and Β Β Katnap and see you tomorrow GSR crew! β€οΈ
West Country pom-poms are also flying high for Β runningdad and Β Marymumto2 . You need to tell us how Bath goes, Mary. I need to do it, just as long as it reverts to March (next year I hope) π€
Thank you Β Irishprincess and all the lovely forumites. So looking forward to catching up with VRBs. I think Β Mudita11 is the only one not recovering from some niggle or another so I expect a PB from her. I think a complete not compete mantra applies to the rest of us. Well maybe not UTS ! π€£
Happy Amsterdam Marathon running to the lovely Β TailChaser and Β Katnap . At least this one should be flat. Also enjoy your international parkrun
Pom Poms waving for Β runningdad and Β Marymumto2 . Bring back the bling!
Completing 10 miles, over 16km seems a massive achievement to me. If you can enjoy it too and meet up with friends too, a great day indeed. I needed to grind out a 8.54km run (135m elevation gain) this morning so 16+km seems a long way away at the moment. Have a wonderful day πππ»ββοΈπββοΈπββοΈππ»ββοΈπ
Pom-poms aloft here in Surrey, for everyone running this weekend! πππββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
Great South Runners, I shall be cheering you on from the sidelines as my husband and eldest son are running it too! Very proud of my son especially, as he was never sporty at school but seems to have caught the running bug at last!π
Thanks for the shoutout IP and good luck to everyone involved in what looks like a very busy runny weekend! Iβm currently at the βwhatever possessed me to enter this event/Iβm looking forward to Sundayβ stage!
Greetings from Amsterdam! Good luck everyone this weekend! Weβll be virtually shaking our Pom poms as we make our way round. If we could run two at the same time weβd be there at the GSR again as well π Have a wonderful time runningdad and Marymumto2 too! π₯³ππ₯³ππ₯³ππ₯³
