Magnesium cream, the wonder fix!

Last week I ran the Cardiff HM. I had an ongoing Achilles niggle, so took it very easy. Actually that was a great strategy, there was so much fun nearer the back! And I ran alongside someone wearing a unicorn outfit. Haven't laughed so much in a race! The achilles was sore the following day, so going down steps was a challenge! I decided to rest it this week, apart from some very gentle running and warm up/cool down drills (I coach 3 nights a week which entails about a mile of running whilst coaching).

I had another race booked yesterday, and its a hilly course, so I was a bit anxious as the niggles were still there. So a visit to the chemists for advice, the owner is also a runner, and I came out with a pot of magnesium cream.

My goodness! This stuff is magic! The aches and pains and soreness disappeared. overnight

Started the race yesterday, and had so much energy that I all but bounced down the road! Then decided to pull the pace back a bit as there are big hills on the second half of the race. But I need not have worried, I had so much energy and even squeezed in a sprint finish. No PB, but delighted anyway.

Kudos to rest and the magnesium!

That sounds fab - I swear by a magnesium bath after a long run but have never used a cream. Any chance you could share the name of the one you bought?🙂

It's by a company called "Better You". They also make a magnesium oil which is fab too.

Yes, think I have used their Magnesium flakes. Thank you🙂

That’s a great tip, thanks for that. I’ve never used this cream but I’ll get some as I always seem to have some sort of niggles 🙄

People dressing as animals always crack me up so I’m not surprised you laughed so much 😂

Well done on the races 👍

I can remember laughing at Poppy Pug describing getting beaten by a giraffe at the Manchester half marathon 😁🦒

Now that would have been a sight to behold! 🤣

I remember that! I wonder how poppypug is getting on?

I always thought the episode of “It’s a Knockout” with the penguins on a big turntable was hilarious (they kept falling down) not least because of the uncontrollable laughter from Eddie Waring and Stuart Hall. And now of course, I can’t watch it …….. ☹️

Some of those were hilarious! 😁

Well done on two races so close together! There is nothing quite like fresh legs for a race, but the cream sounds pretty special too. Maybe I should hunt some down as I am no stranger to niggles !!!

Worth a try! I have another half in two weeks time - the magnesium will be on overtime 🙃

Is it the body butter you're using or one of their other products?

Teresa1632 profile image

I'm using the body butter. My friend is using the oil (she is marathon training(. Both are giving good results

I’m just about to order some for my painful ankle 🙂👍

Fascinating. Do you take magnesium supplements at all? Well done on the HM and subsequent race too btw 👍

Teresa1632 profile image
Teresa1632Marathon in reply toRunBrianRun

Yes, I take the magnesium supplement the evening after a race. (Though maybe should take them all the time.)

I take triple source magnesium capsules twice a day but the idea of direct application to specific areas appeals to me. Can I ask what brand you are using?

Teresa1632 profile image

Its called "Better You"

I went to the chemist and they had no cream but she said they sold “magnesium paste” which is for drawing splinters etc and removing the swelling and inflammation. I said I’d take it, “We don’t have any” she says 😁🙄

I bought a bag of Epsom Salts but the price had rocketed. Must be marathon season 🫤

TK Maxx sometimes has Epsom Salts…..

My husband got me two big bags from there the other week after my tumble 🙂

Oh goodness! Market forces at play. I think you can get it on line or in Holland & Barrett. Happy hunting!

I went to Tesco pharmacy but it was rammed 🙄 None on the shelves either

I am in town tomorrow morning so I’ll try Boots etc 🙂

Interesting - I've never tried a cream but occasionally take a magnesium supplement. Seems to help with sleep and muscle aches, no signs of boundless energy though!

That's interesting! Thank you! My legs are tired after the marathon and yesterday I twisted awkwardly and they hurt this morning 🙄 I'll look for this - also searching yoga for tired legs on yoga with Adrienne as I feel I need to stretch!

Ouch! The magnesium works well on my tight calves. If you can get past the first two minutes, try an ice bath. It might make you squeal, but really good on tired legs. Congratulations on completing your marathon 👏🎉🎉

Thank you! I'm quite a fan of bath therapy! Don't mind hot or ice and I managed to get some magnesium cream so thank you for recommending!
