Oh boy, we need a lot of super-special, extra high-flying pompoms over the next few days! There are races galore, so get ready to show your support for your VRBs as they take part in everything from fun runs to international track and field championships.
Letโs start off with ย cheekychipmunks , on Saturday 16th September. Sheโll be identifiable by a great big cheesy grin as it (almost!) all goes downhill for her during the Cheddar Gorge Road Race 10k: relishrunningraces.com/ched...
Then on Sunday 17th September ย skysue16 - presumably accompanied by her doggy running companion Squiggy ๐ถ - will be taking on the DulvertonTrail Fun Run & Canicross event 10k, a feast of cross country running through the beautiful Exmoor countryside: visitdulverton.com/dulverto...
On the same day itโs the ABP Humber Coastal HM - tape2tape.co.uk/events/abp-... - that has ย misswobble โs name on it. Taking place in Cleethorpes, the event promises runners amazing views and far reaching scenery over the Humber estuary, plus a rousing home straight welcome along the Central Promenade.
Also getting underway that weekend is the Virtual Vitality London 10000, which runners can complete at the location of their choice any time between Saturday 16th and Sunday 24th September: vitalitylondon10000.co.uk/t.... ย Frizzbomb67 is planning to complete her 10k on one of the weekends, while ย Folkylass and ย Hedgehogs123 are looking to offer one another mutual support by running together virtually on Tuesday 19th September.
And last, but definitely not least, we have a proper European competition! ๐ย RunBrianRun ๐ is off to Pescara, Italy, as a member of team GB, no less, to take part in the European Masters Athletic Championships, which take place 21st- 27th September: pescaraemacs2023.it/ Heโll be running in the M60 100m and M60 200m individual races, and potentially in the M60 4x100m Great Britain relay team. What a star!
We wish all our VRBs fun and success in their events, and look forward to reading their race reports!
Anyone else taking part in a racing event this weekend and would like a pompom cheer? Then please let us know by replying asap to this post, and weโll add you to the list!
๐. I thought last yearโs video was hilarious. The official spokeswoman stated that the winner of the womensโ race would comment as soon as she โregained consciousnessโ
Itโs on a par with the Shrovetide football from Ashbourne ๐
I loved watching students' reactions, though I found it necessary to warn certain classes that they were NOT to try it. Funnily enough some of my toughest-looking apprentices would blanch at the prospect! ๐
Haha hopefully that wouldn't hurt, although I can't get the picture out if my mind now!! ๐ Knees at that horrible scabby and weeping stage currently! ๐ฅด
Have a great time everyoneโฆit looks a bit cooler this weekend (soft rain and only about 13c up here today). I wouldnโt run for cheese thoughโฆโฆnot my favourite.
Nor would I Beachcomber66 , but believe me Iโd run for a piece of bling. Even if it is a slightly naff โjigsawโ piece (which makes up a set that Iโll never have) โฆ. Iโm shallow enough not to care! ๐
wow that is an impressive line up of events. Our pom-poms are going to be well used this week. I hope everyone enjoys their events and stays fit and well. Chapeau to Mr Brian of whom I am in awe. I now know a hockey player, a triathlete and a runner who represent their country - (all of them in the higher age brackets) and feel like Iโve made it to super-fan territory!!๐คฃ๐คฃ
Have a brilliant race weekend everyone! I particularly like the idea of a race which is downhill all the way!!Pompoms raised for you all and looking forwards to reading those inspirational race reports!!
Good luck everyone with your running this week ๐
Iโm just starting my packing and getting very flustered as Iโve not flown with a budget airline (Wizz Air) for a very long time and Iโm hoping my bag sizes fit and arenโt too heavy. Iโve decided I canโt take lot of my usual faffage items and will just have to manage without. Iโve made sure the GB kit is in though! I wonโt be allowed to compete without that!
Iโm really pleased to have secured sponsorship from my club as well as a chiropractic clinic here in Brighton called Core Chiropractic who are amazing at keeping me fit and strong and dealing with my aches and pains. I also have help from Skins (compression wear) and High 5 (electrolytes) who are also based in Brighton.
The weather looks set fair for the 10 days of the championships and Iโm SO looking forward to it!
My first race is on Thursday 21st at 13.00 local time. That will be the heats for the 100 metres. If Iโm one of the 16 fastest I will progress to the semis which are in the morning of the 22nd at 11.30 local and the final is scheduled for 18.05 in the evening of the 22nd if Iโm fortunate enough to make it that far.
Iโll post more details of the 200s later when I get more time.
Best of luck Brian, we are all rooting for you, and waving imaginary pom poms, our own special champion who has made us so proud, wishing you a wonderful time and great races. ๐๐๐๐
I wish you Brian all the very best for your running in Italy , The European Championships, I am not sure if it's on YouTube or not, the main thing is that you enjoy your running
Hi Al, thank you for your best wishes. I understand the event is being streamed/televised but typical Italians havenโt told us anything about it yet ๐ ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Thank you Cmoi for your kind words and Pom Poms. A massive shout out and good luck to everyone running in their special events hurrah! ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐๐๐
Thank you for your lovely words and yes Mr Squiggy will be pulling me along! I am feeling very underprepared and rather unfit so there will definitely be some walking, especially the steep hill at the start! Weather going to be wet , so it will be slippy, plus possible thunderstorm ๐ณ
Pom poms madly waving for you all! cheekychipmunks enjoy Cheddar - I'm sad to be missing it this year as it was so good! Good luck to everyone else - the races all sound brilliant!
Thanks Cowladyrunning ! Iโm currently sheltering in the car as itโs tipping down! ๐ฆ This is where my little trotting steps will help me I hope, otherwise I can see the faster runners slipping and sliding down the Gorge! ๐ณ๐
Sunday evening emergency pompom alert: Mumpark has just posted to say she's doing the Virtual Vitality London 10000 tomorrow, Monday 18th September, and would appreciate your pompoms!
