The chequered flag has fallen on the first week of our Christmas Challenge at midnight on Tuesday 10 December. Week 1 is now closed!
Edit; The Rules Committee has decided that anyone can complete a challenge from a previous week at any time before the end of the four weeks of the Christmas Challenge, but they will score half points for the โlateโ challenge. This is to give anyone joining late a chance to make up some ground. Hey; itโs Christmas!!
Week 2 starts today, Wednesday 11 December and closes at midnight on 17th December. Missed out on Week 1? Donโt worry, you can still join the the challenge from Week 2, so just come on in and join the fun, and if you complete a challenge from a previous week you can still score half points for the โlateโ week.
The challenges for this week? Here they are:
1. Do one run/walk wearing Christmas colours (Red/White/Green) or wearing any any type of Christmas wear (Santa hat, elf top, bells etc). If you are feeling particularly brave then wear your Christmas jumper. (4 points).
2. Download a playlist of Christmas tunes and head out for a festive run/walk. BUT you have to sing along to the chorus of a favourite song ๐ถ๐ค without getting arrested ๐ค(4 points).
3.Find the most extravagant/ biggest/brightest decorations and/or light display and take a photo๐๐ (3 points)
Please post about your week 2 successes in a response to this post, preferably with photographs and please state the total points claimed for week 2. We will add the information to the spread sheet.
Given that I do most of my running in the forest, challenges 1 and 2 look easy enough (only birds and squirrels to see me and hear me singing!) but a meaningful light show might be tougher! Maybe I will see a UFO up there! I can hope!
Good luck to everyone; have as much fun as you can whatever you are doing or facing this week.
Hmm. Gonna be tricky for me too! If only I'd bought a santa hat when we visited the town because, funnily enough, I didn't pack a Christmas jumper! Number 2 should be OK if I head out very early and sing quietly (the poor birds will be fleeing their trees). Number 3? I don't think big or bright Christmas lights are a thing here (although I don't expect it to count, I did take this photo earlier today because the bright yellow climber did remind me of lights on a Christmas tree). Good luck everyone ๐
I have just been to bring home my car from its MOT test. There was a thick mist up on the moors and it was decidedly chilly too. I didnโt have time to get out for a run today; to be honest I am not sorry! ๐ฅถ Not in the least bit jealous of your sunshine!!
Sorry BC. I know I'm very lucky, but it was a tough run for me this evening - still hot, low sun in my eyes and already had 15000 steps in my legs from the day! Will hit 27000 before I get to lie down tonight. I'm exhausted and am almost yearning for chilly ๐.
Holidays are very tiring! Even just lying in the sun, it's amazing how much stress a British heart is under!!! Add in travelling and touring and it all gets a bit stressful. Never mind, I'll be home just less than a week before Christmas, plenty of time to relax right? ๐ค๐
Well I completed one task! I downloaded a Christmas playlist and this morning. at 6:30am in the 'feels like 32C' sunshine, off I trotted singing Christmas songs!
That has to go down as one of the most surreal experiences of my life!!!
The other two tasks will have to wait until I'm home, they will be Late, but better Late than Never ๐
Ooh another challenge to get us out for a fun run. We certainly have a few over the top Christmas decs around here, but Iโll need to run in the dark with UTS, for full effect. That will be novel. Christmas playlist is already on iTunes, so raring to goโฆ..
Thanks linda9389 , Irishprincess and Beachcomber66
I had to buy a new hat yesterday; funnily enough the running shop didnโt have Santa hats. This is the nearest I could get; it does have a reflective bobbleโฆโฆ.but I donโt think it qualifiesโฆ..
I am in more trouble than that in terms of photos. The running shop lady took a photograph of me with my GSR medal (she asked me to take it in.). The photo is now on instagram; it is hideousโฆbut probably accurate ๐
I noticed on my shoe mileage thing, when downloading a run, it popped up that my shoes were on minus 190 kms. I turned them over to check the soles and found theyโre bald in places โบ๏ธ Oops
Hope your search is fruitful misswobble. Bit of a mix up with the shoe buying this afternoon. I turned up expecting Cascadias, and they produced Caldera. Easy to make the mistake, but Caldera is a 6mm drop to Cascadia 8mm and stability in Cascadia is greater ( minimising my over pronation is a key aim.) so they are getting the Cascadias for me; a version with goretex uppers to keep my feet dry. ๐คThis is sorted soon.
Me too! Wading is a pain ๐ซ. Some are too wide to go around and just too deep to avoid the inevitable ingress ๐ฅถ. Mind you once over the initial shock itโs ok. If youโre not too far from home that is ๐
Iโm just about to brave some town centre shopping๐ฌ Iโd rather wade through puddles on the trail mind you ๐
Iโm going running later as I missed out yesterday ๐
You know at the beginning of C25K, you're told to run at a conversational pace? Well it's not the same as singing pace. In fact, despite running at my normal pace, I could not sing at the same time. So, I briefly stopped, and sang out, fortunately no-one in earshot. Then home, shower, get the Sax out and annoy the neighbours with more Christmassy renditions ๐ถ๐ถ
Brilliant work! I worry about the rest of us if singing and running at the same time is hard for a sax player! Your health and safety pause was spot on. I am trying to respond to posts and make a Stroganoff at the same time; fortunately the sous chef (Mrs BC) has taken over the plating up process! ๐ Well done!! I will add your points in laterโฆ..food beckons!
Looking forward to these..! I also have a Christmas playlist that I made last year - will take that with me on Thursday evening!๐โโ๏ธ๐ถ Noโs 1 and 3 are also going to be pretty easy this weekโฆ.photos to follow in due course!๐ ๐ค๐
Excellent Sandra. I am hoping to squeeze in a run myself tomorrow, but time looks a bit tight. I will see what is left of the day when everyone else has no further need of me ๐
I failed yesterday but I went shopping instead. Traipsing round town and carting everything home meant I got my miles in. Plus weight training as that stuff was heavy ๐ช๐
I am deffo out there today
tonight I was running at the track so I went out extra early and walked the long way round to get there in order to try and find some amazing lights. All the ones I found looked very pretty and some were very flashy, but I am sure others will find much more extravagant ones!!
This quote from โLoveโs Labourโs Lostโ is very appropriate for me. Iโve been in my study deep in research a lot recently. I should perhaps take heed of Berowneโs warning for fear too much study will send me blind!! A good reason to get out there and run!!!
Definitely! In contrast, your posts encourage me to take mini dips back into what turned out to be my best subject at school, probably due in part to having a photographic memory in those days. I have to make do with Safari now ๐.
What if we add a new rule - triple points for treadmill completed challenges. You can already sing, you can dress up, I bet the gym has a tree .... where's your fighting spirit CC? Oh wait, I got it! There's no bling ๐
Iโm very late to the party as Iโm only getting my week 1 challenges done now so not full points โน๏ธ
I drove to an โenchanted winter gardenโ near mum where I hoped to find some santas and trees and, sure enough, on my run I kept bumping into several! So, can you add my points to linda9389 โs super-duper spreadsheet please BC?
Goodness, I should have read that before I went running today.....does a picture of a boat count ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ great challenge, I'll definitely sing next time I go out. Mind you it could be a few weeks time,
I donโt think that we can bend the rules that far SAR ๐. A very nice try though; in fact itโs a very nice boat! We can look forward to your singing ๐๐ถ๐ถ
Completed challenges 1 and 3 last night , on our IWRR Club Christmas lights run, I've circled me in my Santa hat!! Was a good evening and mincepies afterwards ! ๐
These were from Chelsea Barracks - I wasn't supposed to be there, I was feeling smug because I wasn't going to get lost this time - and then I turned up at the Thames where I expected to find Hyde Park, never mind it was very pretty.
Still singing and Christmas wear to go - the locals are going to love me.
Thatโs a real serendipity CB, excellent work. I have done something similar when walking in London. The Thames is a good safety net! I will add your points to your score. The locals should be infected by the spirit of Christmas and join in! You may even end up on television โฆโฆ๐
2nd challenge of the week completed. This time I had the lovely TailChaser for company. We decided to do our sunrise run in Christmas attire. We both donned Santa hats and TC had her Christmas shoes. I was wearing Christmas leggings too. The run was not so good for me, my light stopped working and I kept getting stitch, but the company and gossip catch up was fabulous!!
Well I donโt do downloaded tunes; I knowโฆ.!! But I did manage to โsingโ A Capella on my run this morning; remembered verses from carols and a touch of โAnd so this is Christmas โ. Hope that counts ๐ฅฐ I wore a Santa hat too!!
Do one run/walk wearing Christmas colours (Red/White/Green) or wearing any any type of Christmas wear (Santa hat, elf top, bells etc). If you are feeling particularly brave then wear your Christmas jumper. (4 points)
Awesome stuff drl212! Points duly awarded. I would make a bonus award for a false moustache, but that could be construed as gender specific. I thought that I had gone largely undetected on my cool down walk back from the forest, but I just met up with someone, whilst walking Molly, who remarked upon my Santa hat. I said โitโs a challengeโ. End of ribbing ๐ โฆ.not that I care ๐
2. Download a playlist of Christmas tunes and head out for a festive run/walk. BUT you have to sing along to the chorus of a favourite song ๐ถ๐ค without getting arrested ๐ค(4 points).
Hello BC and running buddies, a bit late to do my challenge runs this week, but I persuaded ย ย UpTheStanley to do RunWalkLocal this morning as he missed parkrun yesterday, and while he ran 5k, I ran 2k with the children. Dressed as an elf in red, green and white, I had Christmas songs on my playlist. I did have a few bits of singing loud but very difficult while puffing like a train, and I didnโt want to scare the little ones, so I sang along in my head. I will do better when walking to capture Christmas lights another day.
One of the biggest and I had to run a long way, this morning, from my normal route... this house has a LOT of huge decorations, most of which had blown down... but.. Santa remained upright...
I intend running Tuesday..my Ninth Runniversary date...watch this space xxx
Donned my Christmas T-Shirt, put on the fantastic "This is Christmas" album by Emmy the Great and Tim Wheeler - but I have to say my singing was probably more of a mumble.
On Saturday I walked the final section of the Cotswold Way which ends outside the abbey in Bath. I had warned my fellow walkers that I needed to sing a Christmas song for my challenge and they all agreed to be my backing group. However when we came into the Christmas Market there was this lovely group of carol singers so we listened and then joined in with them. (I do have a recording of our singing but HU wonโt let me load it - you have ben spared my dodgy tune keeping). Please can this count as my singing challenge?
I've only got points for wearing festive garb this week, while running the Reindeer Run on Sat 14th. I'm not sure I'll go for any other points this week....
Well that was fun! Iโm just back from a little run to the next village in pursuit of lights galore but couldn't see any โน๏ธ so will have to head out tonight for a walk methinksโฆ
But as promised, I wore my Santa hat, and sang two carols, Hark The Herald Angels Sing (those high notes sound dreadful as I was going uphill at the time ๐) and Ding Dong Merrily On High on the downhill. Anyway, I had just passed a farm where they are having some barn work done and I heard this voice, โHo ho hoโ so I waved back and returned, โho ho hoโ ๐ ๐คฃ๐คฃ
So I've already got some points for this week, but here's the rest. Singing...done, Christmas wear...done, and finally family trip to Waddesdon for some brilliant illuminations, loved by everyone including the grandchildren. Full points please.
I was feeling unwell at the weekend so sadly my Santa Dash didnโt happen - so no points for number 1 this week. ๐ However, I ran my usual route last Thursday, and yes, I did sing along to Step in to Christmas! ๐ถ๐คThe photo of Christmas lights is a house I run past. I took the photo a week ago for the Bridge challenge but as I run past it regularly, I thought it would count? If not, I have loads I took at a Christmas light festival but as I wasnโt running, I didnโt think they would count!๐คทโโ๏ธโจ๐โจ
