Hi Linda

I've got this booked in on 26th March , it's our club away day so a coach load of us going. I have 5 weeks to try and get a bit fitter!

It's a nice one,did it once before in 2016,think I'm going to be slower now. But just to get round will be good ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿคžxxx

Brilliant! Something specific for you to focus on right now, a great motivator too. You're first on the list ๐Ÿ˜

Hi Linda,

I'm doing the Liverpool BTR 10 miles on 26th March.

I've entered with some friends from the Monday morning running group. I'm quite excited as my one and only race to date was the Chester 10k, the week before lockdown.

I ran 10 miles last week and hope to do so again next week, as I can only run shorter distances after that. Here's hoping that will be enough to get me through.

Exciting! You can definitely get through, you can do better than that ๐Ÿ˜

Hi Linda

Iโ€™ve entered the Frampton Globe Trot on 18th March.

Itโ€™s a local off roader of about 8 miles and most of my running club have entered.

Most of my preparation has involved getting our new club t-shirts ready so we can wear them on the day.

Well, I do have my eye on a 10 miler on 12 March but I haven't entered yet as I didn't want to tempt fate just when things are going well ๐Ÿคž

Iโ€™m due to do 13K on Sunday and if everything goes well Iโ€™ll enter afterwardsโ€ฆ.

Hi I am taking part in the Fission HM on the 18th. There is an option for 20miles , perfect for those marathon training

Gotcha! Have added you to the list. 20miles is an unusual one isn't it ...

Yes agree with the 20m, I know a few who are using it for a trial for London marathon. Also strange being on a Saturday I assume because it is mothering Sunday that weekend. Reported as flat not sure how near the Nuclear reactor I will be.

Hopefully it will be loads of fun. If you get chance, pop us a race report - there may be a few people who fancy trying 20 miles ๐Ÿ˜Š

Cmoi profile image
CmoiMarathon in reply to linda9389

It's because so many marathon plans have 20 miles as the longest run. As the race website says, this event may be useful to many who are planning on competing in a spring marathon. Clever ploy by the organisers to get more entrants!

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to Cmoi

A nice 'inbetweeny' too ๐Ÿ˜Š

Cmoi profile image
CmoiMarathon in reply to linda9389

I remember being really anxious about the 20 mile run in my maratrail plan, way more so than the 18-miler. Even though the reality turned out to be fun the idea of voluntarily running it as a race terrifies me!

Freecloud profile image
FreecloudMarathon in reply to Cmoi

A bit off subject Cmoi is there a huge difference between trail and road running? I'm a bit weary of it having never tried it. There is a local Facebook group near me and they post when they are doing a run but I'm always weary of it as I don't know what to expect or get badly injured.

Cmoi profile image
CmoiMarathon in reply to Freecloud

Hi Freecloud , I'd say there can be significant differences between trail and road running, though to some extent that's because the sort of trails I run tend to be a bit wild and woolly! Differences are basically down to terrain and gradient, and how you deal with those.

I'm going out very shortly (grocery shopping not running! I did 14.3k with 339 m elevation gain yesterday, mostly on trails) so will pm you later. ๐Ÿ˜€

Hi linda9389 your photo of March is so spring like and pretty - I just hope we get some lovely mild spring like days. I heard on the radio it is likely to be the coldest March in years ๐Ÿฅถ.

Iโ€™m a bit excited and a lot nervous for a 10k trail event Iโ€™ve entered on Saturday 11th March at Loggerheads. Iโ€™ve been unlucky with my first event in December being cancelled due to snow (I was poorly anyway) then my 2nd event in Feb, I had a calf strain. Then last week I had the same cold virus I had in December so I just havenโ€™t been able to run for a long time.

Iโ€™ve managed a 5k and a 6k run this week but Iโ€™m nowhere near up to my pre-sickness and strain distance of 10k.

But Iโ€™m doing it with a friend who is getting back into running after a long break so we will run slow and maybe walk up some of the hills but we will enjoy it and finish it with a big smile. Third time lucky eh!

Iโ€™ve just signed up for the Battersea Half Marathon on Saturday 12th March. Itโ€™s part of my London Marathon training plan to run a HM but it will be a stretch for me. Itโ€™s 18 years since I last ran that kind of distance. My longest run so far in my training is 9.5miles and that was tough. Iโ€™m going to try for 11 miles in my long run tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Good luck! The atmosphere will give you the extra boost you need, race magic is a wonderful thing ๐Ÿ˜Š

ah yes, dates mixed up. It is Saturday 11th. I was also looking at other races on Sun 12th but chose Battersea in the end as itโ€™s a flatter route

Freecloud profile image
FreecloudMarathon

Hi Linda, sorry in advance for long winded post, but that's me๐Ÿคฃ!

I should have posted here at start of month I guess๐Ÿคฃ. So far this month I've ran a 10 miler in Bundoran county Donegal and a half marathon yesterday in Mullingar county Westmeath.

That in itself should be quiet a lot but this idiot went and booked a half marathon in Roscommon for next Saturday as well! ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Now before anyone says that I'm stupid are mad (๐Ÿคฃ), I'd like to inform them that they were all strategically planned last year and to be used as part of my long weekend runs on my marathon training plan. See I told you I want (that) stupid ๐Ÿคฃ.

I will hopefully be running my first official marathon on the 30th of may, which will be just about 2 weeks after my 55th birthday, and I felt that the marathon (which I booked last summer because it was an early bird offer and much cheaper than anything around here) would be a testament to how far I've come since c25k in mid 21.

Next week's run was also advertising a marathon and I remember pondering over it for a long time last year. It was only a tenner more than the half and I was very tempted by it. That only thing that stopped me was that I didn't want to jeopardize the Belfast marathon as I have also booked 3 nights there so that my wife and I can go sight seeing.

Anyways, I sat back and watched it sell out on Facebook and was quite proud of myself! However, this year I bought a wall planner so that I could see the runs more clearly and also make sure they don't clash with my daughters wedding ๐Ÿคฃ, so I went into my emails to check dates to mark them off and found this one as well...

As previously mentioned, I purchased all these last year and was feeling great. Unfortunately, I injured my knee during my last two runs over the Christmas period and could hardly walk after my last run.

I must admit that I was terrified with the injury and how to deal with it and all my runs. I had been to doctor and got an x-ray where nothing was found. So I decided to live with it and start slow heart rate running and see how that would go. This sort of thing isn't new to me, I hurt my ankle quite badly back in 2020 when I was on a mission to loose weight (I lost 5 stone in 5 months) and I was determined to stay on course, so I got medical straps wrapped them tightly and continued through the pain.

The pain in my knee is different though as restraints just make it worse. So the only thing besides stopping was small and very light runs hoping that I would get better and somehow salvage the year.

I am aware that a lot of people are thinking I'm foolish, and I probably most definitely am. But I'm responsible (๐Ÿ˜‚) and can only have myself to blame if it goes wrong. All I can say is that I have doggedly stuck to plan and haven't missed any of the planned runs to date. However, my training plan app and Garmin are shouting at me telling me that I'm way of track and not running as far and fast as I should do. I was a bit weary of this going into yesterday's run but my knee has been feeling fine so I wanted to give it a test run and followed the 2 hour pacers.

Next week's run will be run in the green zone on my watch so will be a nice comfortable run..

Sorry again for the long post ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ.

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to Freecloud

Never apologise for a long post! And always feel free to make something like this a post in it's own right too ๐Ÿ˜Š Wishing you all the best with the knee. Maybe next Saturday should be for fun (with an eye on being fit to run Belfast!) and not for a new PB ๐Ÿ˜
