Been busy for 15 weeks away from home helping family.Have not run for 6 weeks.
I tried to keep up with some running/walking and labouring strength work as circumstances allowed.
Home now and restarted my desire to tick off a marathon distance somehow, even if it is in required parts within the same day.
So with that in mind I ran this week Mon/Thur/Fri/Sat., 6.4K, 7k , 6k and 10.7k.With Tues/ Wed / Sun ., non running days , just busy in the garden.
I hope to increase the 30k to the marathon distance weekly and then to tick this off in the shortest number of days.
I am not crazy , just trying to find a simple way of getting the required miles in the legs and the hours required at my slow pace to achieve this unique challenge.
I respect the rules and knowledge but when you are an old guy some of it simply is not appropriate.
Wishing you all the greatest joy with your running whatever you are doing.

Hi Tbae, Alan here, not heard from you for a while, I hope you are keeping well, you say that you have not ran for 6 weeks but later in your post you say that you have ran 6.4K, 7K, 6K and 10.7K on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, excellent 😊 🏃🏾, you also enjoy gardening on your non running days, is that big hedge still there?Of course you are NOT crazy, but running those distances after not running for 6 weeks might be a little risky, I wouldn't want you to get injured.
As for me I have now been running for over 4 years, I have not ran more than 10 miles although I have ran 30/10Ks,, a hundred plus 5Ks, 56 parkruns, I now have a red 50 T Shirt for doing that and two medals for running the London Vitality Virtual 10,000 in 2021 and 2022. I now have more running T Shirts than ordinary ones lol, they are in order, a introduction parkrun T shirt, a purple 25 T shirt for running 25 parkruns, a London Vitality Virtual 10,000 T Shirt in 2021, another London Vitality Virtual 10,000 T Shirt for 2022 and just recently a red 50 T Shirt for as I said running 50 parkruns, I
I wish you and your family all the very best. 😊 🏃🏾
Hi Tbae, it's really great to hear from you, and I know you are up and running again. Your desire to meet that Marathon distance will surely get you there, and I wish you the very best of luck as you clock up those km's. Your way will suit you just fine, and I'm pretty sure you will be awarded your badge on here for such a great acheivement.
Hia BBR, I do find my slow pace reduces somewhat the risk of injury.Of course the challenge is clocking up the hours. For me it is the only way I can see of getting this time and miles into my legs and body.On a previous occasion when I got to 36k the shortfall of a further hour seemed to be a huge margin short of the requirement.I am quite chilled again to at least attempt a build up with stuff going on around me.Thank you for your support,Onwards and Upwards always dear friend.🏃♀️🌟💪🙏❤️Xxx
When you’ve reached 36k the remainder is not a huge margin. It’s do-able. You scent the finish😀
Last year I was struggling with hip pain, and gusting winds, on my marathon. I felt happy with the distance still to go when I got to 38km
Are you thinking of an event, or doing it at home for your own satisfaction ? When I did a virtual one when my real one cancelled I went home to use the loo and refresh drinks. I felt happier in the knowledge I’d organised loos en route, eg home, the park, the canal cafe. It made it feel less onerous somehow
My virtual one was my quickest one to date 🙂. 4 hrs 40 mins approx. It was very cold mind you 🥶 I used Goodrunguide “Measure my route” to work out the distance and plot the best route . It took a few attempts til I was happy with it. It worked out practically spot on I input my average pace before starting the measure, based on my best marathon time.
Using a wristwatch is fine though - noting the time you set off and what time you hope to finish. Simple but effective. 🙂
I thought about you while on my coached run yesterday. “Coached”as in a podcast with a US 100m sprinter talking about how a 100m raceseems like an eternity and run as if in slow motion. Under 10.5 seconds 🔥🔥🔥🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🌪🌪🌪🌪 😁😁😁😁 It’s another world int it. Imagine 10 seconds! We should be so lucky 😀
Good luck, Tbae - you have such dogged determination that I’m sure you will reach your goal. ❤️
I barely seem to start running before some ailment stops me again, but now I’ve recovered from 5 weeks with a surgical wound infection, followed by a 2 week virus, I’ll be “couch to 5 k” ing yet again. I only hope to do 5ks, though. That will do me fine. I’ve other main objectives.
I hope you stay injury free, and that family obligations ease for you. (Is the hedge marathon due to begin soon?) ❤️😊
