10 miler done

So I still haven’t run outside but happy to get the 10 mile distance under my belt with just over 6 weeks to go until the half marathon. Going to start running outside from next week, though the long run is going to have to wait until Saturday morning when I get back from watching the mighty West Ham in Lyon for the second leg of the Europa League Cup match.

My new date to see the consultant is July 26th about the double hernia and tomorrow I’m going to get a scan done on the left leg issue (doctor has already said that niggle is not a tear in the muscle). So I’m slowly getting sorted, though my groin hernia is still a factor on any run but isn’t stopping me from achieving the distance. So all in all I’ve got to feel happy(ish). I think I over trained last year and so this year I’m only training two or three times a week which mean my injuries are not aggravated (knee, hip, hernia, leg, ankle 😂). Bizarrely I feel more confident this time round. The last time I ran a half marathon on the treadmill I did it in 3 hours. This time around I would most likely do it 15 minutes quicker. It won’t be hard to beat last year’s outdoor time as I walked half the distance due to cramp. I’ve started stretching 3 times a day now and doing yoga, which I think will give me a better chance of making it than pounding the pavement 6 times a week!

Sounds great! It’ll be fun to get outdoors though. The treadmill must get a bit samey. Good discipline though as a half on a treadmill can’t be easy. Your race will just fly by 😀🏃‍♂️👍

Up the ‘ammers! Have fun ⚽️

Getting your hernia sorted is going to be a worry off your mind (or elsewhere) 😉

Thank you! Yeah I think I keep doing the treadmill because a) I’m a wuss with the cold and b) my hernia gets aggravated more outside. Come On You Irons!! Four games away from the final!

Oh I wish you so well with your running and footy 😀

We’ve managed to turn ourselves from nailed-on-promotion candidates to also-rans within a short space of time. Every time we sniff league football the rug seems to get pulled and we implode. It’s cr*p down here in the basement. Still, we’re off to Torquay for the last gasp. I shall get some running done while I’m down there 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Sounds like a good plan! Yeah it will be nice to get outside. Kudos on doing your HM on the treadmill. 10k is my max on TM before I go loopy 😅. Best of luck managing the hernia too.

Thank you. I’m really looking forward to running around Regents Park again. It was tough going yesterday running the 10 miles but now that’s under my belt I should be well on course.

I think you should be awarded an extra medal for running 10 miles on a treadmill 🏅 The longest I could ever do is 7K.

Very well done!

Thank you. I find the treadmill easier on my body but both indoors and outdoors require a great deal of mental strength. I don’t know how leaving the outdoor running until later in the training this time around is going to affect me. My hope is that now I know I have 10 miles under my belt, when the going gets tough outside I’ll be able to tell myself that I’ve already run nearly the full half marathon distance. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the training goes.

Everything seems to be really coming together for you. As they say, every run is a training run for the next and has something for us to learn - sounds like you learnt lots from your last HM and it's about to pay dividends. Well done!!!

Yes I think so. I’m less angsty this time around and just feel mentally stronger. I’ll see how that translates to running outside next week.

Seems you're well on track for your HM and your health issues are being addressed so looking good!

Running 6 days a week does seem a bit overkill!

Yes, in the end that schedule took a toll on my body and on the day of the event, I still didn’t feel ready.

Well outside is easier than the dreadmill so I think you’ve got it down! Super well done 💪🏽
