Today I did my longest and furthest run to date as part of my HM training plan. I ran 18.41km in total so please could I ask the administrators to give me my 10 miler badge? I wanted to give up half way through when the rain was really pelting down and I had a twinge in my foot but I battled on and completed the run. Thinking of Iannoda Truffe inspired me to carry on. I was completely exhausted in the last 3 km though so I don't know how I am going to manage 21.1km in 2 weeks time!!!🤗

18.41km run today in heavy rain! Please could I have my 10 miler badge?
Congratulations on your 10 miles. You should be fine for your HM just take it easy and listen to your body.
Just need to sure you taper and rest up. If you haven't already make sure you let the pom pom gang know as they will give you lots of energy and encouragement.
So enjoy your HM and don't forget it's your race so do it your way.
Thanks Tabbles for the advice. I will definitely be tapering and running slower if need be. At the beginning of this week I felt super fatigued so skipped two training runs and then did today's. My three training runs this week are all under 30 minutes so I'm hoping the last week will also be light before race day. I've already let the pom pom gang know about my event but thanks for the reminder.🤗
I’ve just given you your badge on the other post.
An extra well done for doing this run in heavy rain 💪 and for overcoming the twinge.
You’ve broken the back of your training and the atmosphere on race day will give you adrenaline and an extra boost and of course the virtual cheers from your VRBs! You’ll be fabulous 😎
Congratulations 👏👏👏 You really don’t need to go any further in training. The adrenaline and the supporters on the day (real and virtual!) will keep you going to the end of the HM. Look forward to hearing about it in 3 weeks 😃
Thanks Sandie1961 fingers crossed I will be able to do it as my slight twinge has developed into a constant discomfort when I walk so I'm now on the injury couch! I may not be able to do any training runs this week at all but I'm hoping that if I rest my foot it should be better by the day of the race.😬
Might be worth trying to get a physio appointment. I developed a painful foot about 4 weeks before my first HM and had 3 appts (strained peroneal tendon) then ran with it taped and managed to complete it without too much discomfort
Thanks Sandie1961 I'll wait a few more days to see it if gets better and if not I'll make an appointment with the doctor to ask to refer me to a physio. I don't have very long though before the race so I'm hoping it will clear up by itself🤗 Plus I want to do my Doddington Hall parkrun!
If you can afford it I would recommend a private physio, preferably one who specialises in sports injuries. My mum has been waiting for a NHS physio appointment since April!
I'm sorry to hear that you mum has been waiting so long for an appointment Sandie1961 I hope she is not in too much discomfort and that she is seen soon.
Thank you!
Hi Sandie1961 hope you're well. I don't know whether I will be able to do that parkrun in Lincoln yet as my foot still hurts and it's only 11 days away. It's a real shame as I was looking forward to meeting and running with you 🤗If it's ok I'll give you an update on my condition in a week's time but it isn't looking likely that I'll be able to run let alone run 5km. I will completely understand if you want to make other plans in the meantime.
Oh no, what a shame ☹️ I was looking forward to it too. Does that mean you’re having to defer your HM?
Hi Sandie1961 yes I won't be able to do my HM this Saturday either. I'm trying to see if they can transfer my place to a similar event next year. I've decided I won't be coming to Lincoln for the 26th November parkrun as I think it would be too soon to run a 5km after my sprained ankle. If I am race fit this side of Christmas I may be able to still do it in December. I'll let you know. Enjoy your other HU meet ups! 🤗
Fantastic stuff, well done pushing through when you wanted to give up!
Thanks R4inbow but I'm wondering whether perhaps I should have stopped running when the twinge in my foot didn't go away as I'm now on the injury couch. Hopefully if I rest my foot enough I should be fine for race day! 🤗
Well done the buzz on the day will get you over the line no problem 💪💪
Huge congratulations - that's a fabulous milestone. The thing is, the last 3km are always hard; the last three of a HM are no harder than the last three of a 10 miler 😀 I think it's an expectation thing as much as a physical one. Remember, each run prepares you for the next and we'll be waiting with your HM badge 😊
Thanks so much linda9389 hopefully I'll be able to do the race as at the moment I'm on the injury couch. The twinge in my foot has got worse. Hopefully one or two weeks of rest and I'll be fine for race day. I'll be so disappointed if I can't do it as I've spent 18 weeks training for it! But if I can't do it there is always another race I suppose 🤗
That's soooo frustrating! But don't panic. Rest. Rest. Rest! You have done all the hard work. Now it's time to listen carefully to your body. Sending healing vibes.
Congratulations on your big run! You are totally set for HM distance now. Just let yourself recover now and go easy on your remaining runs as you taper. Our bodies adapt during our rest between efforts so the rest time is just as important as the training time. Good luck!
Thanks Decker I certainly am going to need a lot more rest than you realise as I'm on the injury couch at the moment as the twinge in my foot as got worse. I may not be able to do any more training runs before race day. We'll see. Hopefully that won't jeopardise my performance! 😬
Oh no, I’m sorry to hear this Jogger. Hoping this is a short term issue. Sometimes a few days off is all that’s needed but it’s hard to say for sure.
Congratulations Jogger22 that's marvellous and you deserve an even bigger Well Done for completing it in what sound like awful conditions.I'm sure all your training means that comes HM day york be fine.
What a lovely shiny new badge 😊
Thanks dijep Maybe I should have stopped running when the twinge in my foot didn't improve but it seemed manageable at the time but now I'm on the injury couch as the twinge has got worse. I'm hoping that if I have an enforced rest for one or two weeks I will be fit enough to do the race and that not having done any training runs in the 2 weeks before won't jeopardise my performance. Fingers crossed 🤞😬
You can definitely ease off a little now. It is possible to go directly from 18km to HM, even if the next run you do is only 10km.
Thanks nowster I think 10k might be pushing it in the current state I'm in! The twinge in my foot has developed into a mild pain so I'm taking some enforced rest and hoping that I will be fit for race day!
If it gets bad, seeing a physio earlier will give you more chance of being ready for the race day.
HI there. Having done a half marathon myself (many years ago), I can testify to the fact that you don't have to run the distance before the actual day. I think the furthest I ran before the actual day was 18K, and did the HM without fatiguing. Not fast though, but at least I did it. As others have said, adrenalin, all the other runners, the atmosphere, the crowd, all these will get you through. Hope it goes well!!!
Hi @Pegix many thanks for your words of encouragement but I won't be doing the race tomorrow after all as I'm on the IC atm! The twinge in my foot got worse, not better. Good luck with your running journey and welcome back to running after all this time. I found that it does get easier if you run consistently over a long period of time. I found it really hard when I started c25k but when I'm not injured like now I really enjoy my easy runs.🤗
Oh no I'm so sorry. Thats a real disappointment for you. But better to rest and get treatment, and fully recover. You'll be training for an ultra before long! Get better soon
Thanks @Pegix that's very kind of you but an ultra marathon is some way off I think if it's between 50km - 160km! I barely made it over 18km a couple of weeks ago and that took me 18 weeks of training after a 10k race and I really should build up very slowly in order to avoid injury like the one I have now! 🤣
