2nd 10 miler ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

As we get closer to the GSR I had โ€œpromisedโ€ myself that I would run another 10 mile training run before I have to do it for real! The intensive PT sessions I am doing this week for my 28 day transformation challenge are upper body, whereas next weekโ€™s will be bum and legs again, so it really did have to be this week. This morning the rain was absolutely torrential, so I waited until it eased off a bit after lunch, put on my lightweight waterproof jacket (despite 17C ๐Ÿฅต) and set off on the route I did last week for my 14k. Lots of puddles and mud on the road and some rather puzzled glances from car drivers. At just over 1k I managed to step on a 1.5 inch pyracantha thorn, which clearly somebody hadnโ€™t cleared away after pruning. Thankfully, although it went right through the sole of my shoe, it didnโ€™t actually puncture my foot, but I did have to stop to remove it. A quick dive behind the hedge at 9.5k for a comfort break and a final time of 1:57:00. 3 minutes faster than my first one, but 5 minutes off my target GSR pace. Still, itโ€™ll do for now!

Niiiiice Sandie! Well done, youโ€™re well on the way to your target time. Iโ€™m not telling you mine - youโ€™ll strain something laughing! Like I said before, bring a pile of mags to read at the finish line! ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…

Itโ€™s hard with waterproofs isnโ€™t it? They say breathable, but theyโ€™re really not and theyโ€™re so hot. ๐Ÿฅต๐Ÿฅต

Good luck with your continuing transformation challenge. Youโ€™re going to whoop the GSR upside the head! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ’ช ๐ŸŽ‰

You got there before me dear Cheeky and encouraged me to get there. I can hardly walk now though ๐Ÿ˜‚

Brilliant run and time Sandie; a few spots of rain and deadly caltrops donโ€™t stop a musketeer! GSR look out. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Thanks BC! Mobility is a bit of a problem at the moment, but Iโ€™m starting to feel a bit more confident about GSR ๐Ÿคบ๐Ÿคบ๐Ÿคบ๐Ÿคบ

Well done Sandie, that is such a good time. You will have no problem with the GSR, especially with everyone cheering you on. You are going to love it.

We went out at 4.00 with a strong westerly wind on the prom. Phew! It was good practice for the GSR finish, although I am hoping for an easterly on the day to help push us home. I just did 10k though.

Donโ€™t worry cheekychipmunks , Iโ€™ll be much closer to you.

Thatโ€™s what Iโ€™m hoping Dexy. Hope the wind isnโ€™t too strong though - unless itโ€™s a tail wind of course ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’จ

Ouch for the Pyracantha Sandie but well done on your second 10 miler!๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ

great run Sandie, sounds like you are more than ready! You got the bad luck out of the way already by stepping on that thorn so you'll be good to go for the GSR

Thank you ๐Ÿ˜Š I just wish my legs and glutes would work properly again ๐Ÿ˜‚

Super impressed! I did about 30% of that route yesterday, lots of puddles and slippy bits to dodge. Also discovered that some drivers would rather brush against my pelvis as opposed to getting their offside wheels in the puddles! Been buying high viz things today for these grey days. Seems like winter might require whole new outfit ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

Thank you! It really was soggy wasnโ€™t it? I had to jump onto the grass verge to avoid a couple of the farm vehicles. My pink waterproof jacket is eye wateringly bright as well ๐Ÿ˜‚

Sounds like a great run. Go to the loo before you start, avoid hedges and top off with a dose of race magic - I'll lay odds that you'll beat your target time ๐Ÿ˜

I doubt thereโ€™ll be many hedges on the seafront so good advice Linda ๐Ÿ˜‚. I took 2 mins off my 10k time when I did Lincoln (think having pacers really helps) so letโ€™s see ๐Ÿคž

I LOVE pacers - once a month at our parkrun and it really pushes me on ๐Ÿ˜€

Fab training run, Sandie, and an excellent time! You are doing so well, and going to smash it at the GSR. ๐Ÿ‘ Lucky near miss with the thorn though ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. x

Yes, I am so glad I pulled up as soon as it happened and didnโ€™t puncture my foot. I am starting to feel excited and nervous all at the same time and thereโ€™s still over 3 weeks to go ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Youโ€™ll do it at GSR no problem Sandie, those crowds make such a difference.

Evil pyracantha; nasty, nasty plant, if it wasnโ€™t for the berries, lucky you realised it was there in time. At least you didnโ€™t find nettles during your comfort break like I did a few weeks back๐Ÿ˜‚

Sandie1961 profile image

Iโ€™ve still got scars on my arms from trimming our pyracantha at home! Oh, ouch, that does sound painful. I just got really wet feet from the long grass

Totally relate to all of that. I think we all have wet feet this week!

Fantastic! Well done in this awful weather! You'll be ready! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

I got caught in some bramble cuttings last week and ended up with several cuts across the back of my ankle. They're so nasty.

Thanks JoJo! I hope so. Gardening really can be a dangerous activity canโ€™t it?

GoGo_JoJo profile image
GoGo_JoJoUltramarathon in reply to Sandie1961

Oh yes, almost lost a hand to a chipper... very dangerous! Fortunately my partner at the time heard my shout and saw the terror in my face and ran over in time to hit the stop button before my hand which was trapped in my glove amongst branches got to the muncher. It had no safety or cut off I could reach from the side I was on... got off with just one slightly dislocated finger which I just popped back. Terrifying though. Machine went straight back. ๐Ÿ™ˆ

OMG, that's terrifying ๐Ÿ™€ I hate electrical gardening equipment and I don't use it at all. Even when I have professionals in to prune big trees and hedges, etc I hide away so I can't see if they chop any bits off........... *๐ŸŽผ hum-di-hum ๐ŸŽผ I'm just making lots of tea and not looking out the window at that man with the chainsaw ๐ŸŽผ ........

Fab run Sandie! But thank goodness that thorn didn't cause foot damage ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I know from my gardening life that those pyracantha thorns are really sharp.

You're all set for the GSR, and you'll probably be faster on the day as the crowds and adrenaline will carry you along like a fluffy cloud ๐Ÿ˜Š
