Hello you epic runners! Guess what? Itโs nearly March!!! And that usually means the race schedules are getting busier and there are lots more events ๐ค
Are you taking part in one? If so, we want all the details. Any distance, any location, everything is welcome here.
Tell us all about it in the comments and weโll add you to our list. Weโll then be able to send you out with a pom pom flourish on the Friday before your race to give you an extra va-va-voom ๐ฅณ
Hi IP! I was feeling a bit bereft with the postponement of the Bath Half and the end of my Winter Series but Sandie1961 suggested the Burghley 7 miler near Stamford in Lincolnshire. ,cheekychipmunks , Shake-and-run and myself will be joining her for a proper HU knees up on 13th March ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ๐
Yes! Something to be excited about running-wise at last! The Bath Half postponement sent my running plans into free fall. Thanks for the name check TailChaser . Canโt wait! ๐๐
I know what you mean cheeky, Iโve just mindlessly followed my plan for no particular reason than to have some structure. Itโll be great to run somewhere different (and without hills ๐คฃ) ๐
Iโve got a race next Sunday (6th March) itโs called The Steyning Stinger. Itโs a muddy trail run over the South Downs. Iโm doing the Marathon as part of my ultra training ๐ณ but there is the 1/2 option too.
Youโre on the list! Iโve had a look at the website and noticed all the hills ๐ช That looks hardcore but if youโre training for an ultra then you are no doubt ready for them.
Enjoy your taper and watch out for lots of pom poms next Friday ๐ฅณ
Hi IP, Please add me to your list - I'm running the Cambridge HM next Sunday (6th March). This is my first organized, non-virtual running event ever (apart from Park Runs) so I'm quite excited by the prospect. I just hope the weather is good for the occasion.
Youโre on the list! A few people here over the years have done Cambridge and have loved it. They always mention the brilliant atmosphere. Itโs one of those iconic races so youโre sure to really enjoy it. And your first ever event is always special ๐
Enjoy your taper week and watch out for the pom poms on Friday to send you on your way ๐ฅณ
I have been selected to run in the Southern Counties Masters 200 metre relay team at the Indoor Championships on the 13th. Terrified would be an understatement! ๐ฌ
Iโm just in from cheering on the Brighton Half runners. So many more runners than last year! Weather is kind but that wind ๐จ๐ณ
Thanks Decker. I must admit it was a bit of a surprise when I got selected. And then I realised it was only 4 weeks to the race itself eek ๐ฌ ๐ฑ Complete overhaul of the training regime required.
Youโre on the list MissW! Iโm crossing everything for you that youโll be ok to go come the day. Thereโs plenty of time for rest and ice. But itโs so frustrating โน๏ธ
I have the Forest of Dean HM coming up on 20th March so I guess that counts. Did you decide to go for it (thereโs still 6 days left before entries close)?
Iโve also entered the Manchester Marathon on Sunday 3rd April. Is it too early to add that to the list? Thatโs definitely the event that Iโm focussing on.
Anyhow, Iโve spent enough time on the PC today; itโs time I went out and did some training...
Hi SM! Youโre on the spreadsheet for March but keep an eye out for the shout about April events at the end of this month.
Iโm not doing this one. As I was faffing about and considering whether to sign up I remembered that it was a friendโs birthday and she was coming to stay with us. Not sure heading out for most of the day without her would have been a good idea ๐
But Iโm keeping an eye on it for next year. Looking forward to reading all about it from your excellent race reporting ๐
Thought at first you were referring to Manchester but I guess you mean a report for the FoD HM (like I said, my focus is on Manchester). Iโm sure Iโll come up with something.
Thinking about it, it will be the first time that Iโve run in a non-virtual HM. That should mean that Iโm on for a course PB (really wonโt be happy if I fail to beat my walking time).
Three years since c25k, I've continued running. Joined in with others, who have formed informal running groups. That encouragement has been vital from my perspective, to keep me going. Running with somebody, is ten times easier that running on your own. I slowly increased distance on one of my three weekly runs, until we were hitting 10k. With the support of those more experienced than me, I have allowed distance training to increase to 12 miles duration, in preparation for my first half marathon next weekend. Wilmslow half marathon beckons. The first of three, I've registered to enter. That endurance training must have gained dividends, as yesterday, in my mid sixties, I ran a personal best 10k time. There is hope for we, of the older generation.
I'm doing the Cardiff half this Sunday! Will be my first HM. Made it to 11 miles in training so hoping my legs will take me the extra bit on the day. Nerves are kicking in now with last run today - only a mile according to my Garmin plan which feels weird. Anyway, will give it all I've got and see what happens and it'll be my birthday too so double celebrations! Thanks everyone here for the constant inspiration, I often read the forum to keep me motivated. ๐
Ooh how exciting! Your first HM is always special and a double celebration to do it on your birthday ๐ฅณ There will be many balloons and pom poms ๐๐
Cardiff is suppose to be brilliant so I look forward to your race report!
Good luck, have fun and smile when you cross the finish line. Youโll be brilliant ๐
