Hey everybody, it’s been a while since I posted. The long and the short of it is that I haven’t been running at all since I did the Hackney Half Marathon. I still haven’t had my double hernia repaired but started a fitness regime aimed at getting a beach body and mainly included HIT training, which I can’t do too rigorously due to the hernias, but that’s going well and I’m losing weight.
Then I realised that I’d entered the London 10k on 13th February. So last Tuesday I decided to try and run a treadmill 10K to see if I could do it and got to 8K (on the NRC app) before Jeffing the last 2K. Then I completed the distance yesterday and knocked 13 minutes off Tuesday’s time into the bargain. I’ll do one outdoor 10K on Wednesday and then I should be good to go for the race.
The treadmill reading was 2K under the distance and so I continued walking until the dreadmill was complete. I’m going to use my Fitbit watch for Wednesday’s outdoor excursion.
My ex wife told me today she’d entered the Pennine Way spine race for 2023. I heard myself say that I’m doing the Hackney Half Marathon again in May and she agreed to do it too. So I’ll be running my second half marathon, double hernia and all. Even though I’m not match fit yet, my mental strength is much better than last year and I seemed to have retained some physical fitness (probably playing football has been helping). So I’ve got the running bug again!
I’m back and my dodgy lungs are slightly less dodgy - long story.

I don’t know if they can do it as an outpatient. I think it’s going to be full anaesthetic. I have been to my GP to chase. He put me onto PALS and they never got back. The NHS is in a state, especially in London.
Absolutely. I wasn’t going to run again until after my op but I could be waiting another year. I’m seeing the Consultant about the little hernia on my leg on March 1st but since they’re way behind on minor ops I don’t see that happening any time soon either. At least I can still run with it. Another alternative is to pretend I’m in a lot more pain than I am. A friend of mine recently had a hernia op after being admitted to hospital through A&E and they did the op that week.
