Hey everybody, it’s been a while since I posted. The long and the short of it is that I haven’t been running at all since I did the Hackney Half Marathon. I still haven’t had my double hernia repaired but started a fitness regime aimed at getting a beach body and mainly included HIT training, which I can’t do too rigorously due to the hernias, but that’s going well and I’m losing weight.

Then I realised that I’d entered the London 10k on 13th February. So last Tuesday I decided to try and run a treadmill 10K to see if I could do it and got to 8K (on the NRC app) before Jeffing the last 2K. Then I completed the distance yesterday and knocked 13 minutes off Tuesday’s time into the bargain. I’ll do one outdoor 10K on Wednesday and then I should be good to go for the race.

The treadmill reading was 2K under the distance and so I continued walking until the dreadmill was complete. I’m going to use my Fitbit watch for Wednesday’s outdoor excursion.

My ex wife told me today she’d entered the Pennine Way spine race for 2023. I heard myself say that I’m doing the Hackney Half Marathon again in May and she agreed to do it too. So I’ll be running my second half marathon, double hernia and all. Even though I’m not match fit yet, my mental strength is much better than last year and I seemed to have retained some physical fitness (probably playing football has been helping). So I’ve got the running bug again!

I’m back and my dodgy lungs are slightly less dodgy - long story.

Either the heart rate thingy isn't working or you're a vampire. 🧛

Bit of both :) The heart rate monitor never works on the NRC app. I usually use the FitBit for that but I was running indoors.

Thank you. No not been idle. I enjoy fitness too much though it would’ve been nice to have got the hernias done. I’ll contact Linda, thank you.

Hello again. I wondered where you’d got to 🙂

Glad to hear you’re still running and keeping fit 💪. Shame about lack of hernia repair though 😟

Good luck with your training 🙂👍

Thanks, yeah it’s annoying because it definitely slows me up.

Can you try via your GP to hurry things up? My sis is waiting for a hip op and she’s been referred to a private hospital and now has a date.

My nephew had a hernia repair as an outpatient. Is that a goer in your case?

I don’t know if they can do it as an outpatient. I think it’s going to be full anaesthetic. I have been to my GP to chase. He put me onto PALS and they never got back. The NHS is in a state, especially in London.

It’s so annoying and depressing but we have to hope that things will get better 🙏

We have to keep ourselves healthy in every way possible. I think that’s always been true though 🙂

Absolutely. I wasn’t going to run again until after my op but I could be waiting another year. I’m seeing the Consultant about the little hernia on my leg on March 1st but since they’re way behind on minor ops I don’t see that happening any time soon either. At least I can still run with it. Another alternative is to pretend I’m in a lot more pain than I am. A friend of mine recently had a hernia op after being admitted to hospital through A&E and they did the op that week.

I think you might have to get back in touch with your gp. They can only try to expedite things if they know how it’s affecting your quality of life.

Good luck 🙂

Yes, I’m going to have to say it’s becoming more painful. Which it is when I run.
