Carb loading: you can time it with your taper period. A couple of weeks before the marathon cut some of the fat out of your diet and replace it with carbohydrates - don't load them on top of what you usually eat, you don't want to end up eating more calories than you need! If you already eat a diet that's pretty high in carbohydrate you probably don't need to think about this, though.
If you like Clif Bloks then they'll be fine - you might want to watch the caffeine content if your digestive system is sensitive to that.
You need to experiment to find out what foods work for you on the run - use your longer runs to do this. I'm sure there will be plenty of suggestions from others (and you can also search for posts about food on the run), but personally I like SiS gels at the moment, and jelly babies, and something savoury like Hula Hoops and dill pickles. Portability and ease of eating are also key!
Enjoy your training! xxx
I'm down for the metric marathon! Been wanting to do it for a few years now. Really looking forward to it. Enjoy the training and have fun experimenting with energy on the run 😊
Hi Kev. A marathon! So exciting 😀🤗
Do have a browse on this board as there’s loads of discussion here about fuelling training runs and on the big day itself.
Start experimenting now so you’ve got it sussed before race day
I don’t do carb loading as such. I might have extra pasta in the week prior to race day, and double porridge on race day 🥣🥣.
Enjoy your training 😀👍
Thank you so much think I have the training in hand as my coach is helping me with this I’m actually looking forward to the training 😁😉👍
