2 hours - 14K

Hiya,

In my quest to 10 miles I had planned for 14K today, the farthest I have ever run. As always I Jeffed also this run at a ratio of 4min30 / 0min30.

Took my usual 10K route, though I went the other way around for the first 5K. All went well, found a nice rythm and enjoyed the run. At 5K I realized this run felt better than my 12K last week. But I have done my best to hydrate and I slept a bit better last night, 2 very important factors.

Passed a bunch of people and got mixed results to my called out hello's. Kept going, though I must admit that I felt myself slow a bit and indeed kilometers 8 - 9 - 10 were a bit slower. I thought I was slowing down ever more afterwards, but the stats say I was slightly faster again.

In the last kilometers I was struggling. But I had put together some aparatus yesterday with lots of bending and getting up again, so might be my legs were a tad sore before my run already.

The last kilometer felt as if I was crawling along instead of running, but the stats say it was my third fastest kilometer. It really is weird how your feelings can deceive you.

Despite struggling, I did finish my 14 kilometers in a (for me) nice time of 2:00:27. I had planned to go for the 10 miles next weekend, but I am starting to doubt wether I will be able to, having struggled so hard on 14 kilometers...

Cheers, Evy

Wow! Well done! What you describe is very common. The slow down in the middle as we slip into rhythm but lose focus, the difference between perceived pace and actual pace and the slog of the last two kilometres. You completed the run. That run was training for the next one. It has prepared you for the next. Having said that, why not consider taking a cut back week now before the 10 miles? Run 8 or 10k next weekend instead, then come back with 16k the week after, running on fresher legs. It's good practice to have a reduced nikeage week every four weeks or so to give your legs a chance to recover 😊

I should cut back a week, I know. But the 2 weekends after next weekend I want to take it 'slow' as I have a week off then and want to relax. Sounds foolish I fear...

See how you feel next weekend. Have an easy week - keep any midweek runs short - then take that 10 miles easy! Believe in yourself. We're all behind you 😊 if you decide it's not the day for it, out it off until after your time off. It will wait 😊

Thanks, I was already planning to shorten my week runs to 3K instead of 5K ☺

Well done BlackScorpian, from my very limited experience, you will probably know on the day whether it's the big one or not. Good luck.

Fantastic stuff Evy. See how you feel next week. It might be freezing, so a shorter run next week may still be in order.

Yeah I think that this coming week I am going to do a 3K and 5K instead of 2x 5K. Or maybe 2x 3K. Not sure yet. Will so how I feel ☺
