Not sure what to think of that. It definitely didn't go to plan. I'd like to blame the sun coming out but although it didn't help it was all down to me. I went off much too fast, but didn't seem to be able to go slower, it was like my legs were telling me how fast they were going whether I liked it or not. Couldn't keep it up after 6k and Jeffed a fair part of the race. The last mile was OK, able to run and at a decent pace. Finished 3-4 mins slower than my normal 10 mile time (nearly 10 slower than my PB) but I finished. Was great fun and overall I'm pleased.

GSR... it was ugly but I did it (and finished LEJOG)
Well done on pushing through LadyGault ! I had a tough one too - but we did it!!๐ช๐๐
Congratulations on completing this morning's Great South Run at Southsea, nothing to be ashamed of regarding your time, glad you enjoyed your run today, well done, I am now waiting for run reports of other runners on this forum who ran the GSR today
Well done ๐ Who cares what it looked like. You crossed the finish line!
Exactly the same thing happened to me Lady Gault , except I did a lot more walking. Well done you on what I think is an excellent time but I know itโs all relative.
It was very hot when that sun came out on the green wave. OH was in orange and didnโt have the sun.
No energy to post yet ๐ด
Seems like a few of us found it tough today Dexy!
It was my own fault Sandra I knew I should start at a certain pace but I still bombed along with everyone else. I agree though, Portsmouth residents really know how to get behind the runners.
Just well done for keeping going to the end
Well done LG. Great time there, Iโd be over the moon with that! Youโre right though, the sun was warm wasnโt it? I was delighted when the breeze kicked in on occasion.
Enjoy a relaxing evening. ๐
It was humid today I thought.
Well done on your race. It sounds like proper fun despite the hard work the๐. We go with all sorts of race strategies but they rarely go quite the way weโd planned. Itโs all part of running and racing and why we keep doing it
I hope youโre feeling ok now ๐๐โโ๏ธ๐ ๐โ
Oh donโt be disappointed! Thereโs always next time!๐ช๐๐โโ๏ธ
My only disappointment today was lack of good coffee again ๐
Sounds like we had a similar experience LG - glad you enjoyed it anyway.
It sems to me it's impossible to start at a sensible pace in a race! All the pent up tension from waiting, nerves at achieving our target times, the lift from cheering crowds, others running alongside ... it all skews perspective enormously! It's happened to me over and over again. GSR was my first experience of it and boy was the second half tough. But crossing the line - that's what counts!!! Congratulations.
I suffer from too-fast-start syndrome too, so I locked on to the 1 hr 30 pacer in the queue for the start and ran with him for 15k. The he waved me off and I managed a decent last k to finish with a 1:28:19 chip time. The best bit was he turned out to be a parkrun RD down the road in Southampton, so we swapped a few war stories along the way .......
Well done on a fantastic time. I couldn't get anywhere near the 1.50 pacer in the green wave at the start. I should have arrived even earlier. I can't remember what time I estimated when I entered, perhaps I should have been more optimistic as a 1.45 pacer in the white wave would have been ideal. More lessons learned ๐
Well done, superstar!!!! xxx
Well done LG, how many of us stick to a plan?! You did it and thatโs still a good time, congratulations! ๐๐๐
