First run with head torch πŸ”¦

And what a difference it made! Thank you to everyone who recommended various torches, I ended up getting a Black Diamond ReVolt - think that’s what it’s called. I was testing it on my balcony last night being a bit naughty really and sweeping the beam over people’s windows β€˜cos I could! Anyway, I felt as though I was wrapped up in my own little light bubble, and how nice it was to do a very dark country lane with the moon for company.

For some reason I feel as though I’m going faster than I actually am when I run in the dark, it seems harder to feel my pace. Not sure why.

It was a good run, I feel set up for the day now. I’m going to hopefully do a long run Friday to start getting back to a HM distance again.

Have a smashing day! 😊😊😊

Ooh so it definitely gave enough light not to worry about tripping Frenc? Was it road or trail you ran this morning?

I think it's something I should invest in as I like running 6/7 am ,with the dark mornings it's getting later now till I'm getting out!

Wow your speed is definitely improving that was a pretty fast pace todayπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’¨πŸŒš

Good your ready again to up the distance..I done a 10K yesterday and thinking I'd like to go for 10 Miles on Friday πŸ˜…

Good luck with yours.. x

Hello Sparky! Yes, it deffo made a difference especially along the country lane that otherwise would have been pitch black. I am trying to up the distance again, but I think my impending holiday may have something different to say 🀣. Anyway, here’s to both our long runs on Friday! 😊😊😊

Cool beans. How many lumens it got?

Oooh that’s very technical, let me Google it. Ah ha, 350 apparently. No idea if that’s good or not 😊.

It does make things feel fast! 🀣 you neglected to mention what colour you got!

Frenc profile image
FrencHalf Marathon in reply to GoGo_JoJo

Well I’m a bit annoyed because when I bought it, black was the cheapest. Now all the funky colours seem cheaper! I may need to put some day glow stickers on it! 😊

Oh poo!! I hate it when they do that. πŸ‘ŽπŸ»

The beam of the torch causes a tunnel effect which makes it look as though you're going faster.

I agree! And lots of moths came along for the ride 😊.

Haha, I have a vision now of hundreds of moths flying around your head as you run 🀣

Let there be light 😁Well done with the run

Glad you found the headtorch good πŸ‘

I think the feeling that you are running faster is like driving at night , that always feels faster to me !

Love the little drawing with the headtorch on 😁

Ah thank you Ian! My other half was joking I needed to take a pick-axe with me, perhaps I could have swatted the moths with it. It was just nice to be able to do a route that otherwise would have been too dark. If someone had told me a year ago I’d be running down a pitch black road at 6am with a light strapped to my head I’d have checked their temperature 🀣.

Glad you sorted your head torch. I guess they take a little getting used to. Good run 🌸😊🌸

Ah thank you so much ☺️. It was a bit weird, and I had to laugh at the dent in my forehead when I got home. I may have to put something under the torch bit in the future! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I've been looking off and on all day for a torch, wondering if the chest strap ones are worth considering? MmmπŸ€”Maybe a post on advice if I don't get comments here..

Keep me posted after your Friday run Frenc πŸ‘

Will do Sparky. There’s so much choice isn’t there, it fairly made my head spin 🀣.

I have a chest light and love it! It really is just what you prefer. Good luck in choosingβ€¦πŸ™‚

Pop a folded buff underneath. Helps stability too

Oooh thank you, good idea. I looked a bit like something out of Star Trek yesterday 🀣.

Sounds fab - I love running in the dark and you definitely do feel like you are sort if cocooned in the darkness (in a good way!🀣)πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸ”¦

Thank you! Doesn’t it just. I remember when I started C25K last November I did a few runs in the dark, and being really surprised that I enjoyed it. 😊

Well done and I’m glad you like your head torch. πŸ˜€πŸ‘ I have a head torch but it’s too heavy and uncomfortable for running so I use it for camping and such. This has prompted me to look for a chest torch now while I’m still on the IC πŸ˜‚

Frenc profile image
FrencHalf Marathon in reply to RunBrianRun

Ah many thanks 😊. I did wonder if it might be a bit cumbersome, but I guess I’ve had to get used to strapping various things to myself for running. Best of luck with the chest torch search and I hope you’re not on the IC for too long. πŸ˜ƒ

It might fit over your cap or your Buff. Mine doesn’t move at all πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘

misswobble profile image

The Petzyl ones are neat and not heavy. My LED Lenser is light too. It has a rear light too which flashes if required.

Ooooh how exciting! πŸ˜ƒπŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—

You’ll run slower I guess once you’re out there as it’s instinctive to pick your way more carefully over obstacles in the dark. It’s like it happens automatically. I pick my feet up more too I notice

Have fun out there πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘

Frenc profile image

Thank you! Yes, it’s definitely an instinctive thing being more careful. πŸ˜€
