A number of things went wrong today! I was supposed to run this morning, when it was forecast to be cold but dry. Plans scuppered by other half who woke up with a streaming cold and needed me to act as Santa (driving Christmas presents to her planned lunch meet up with her mates!). The things I do!
So, the morning slipped seamlessly into afternoon and I found myself looking at rain pouring down the windows and the light starting to fade. Enter Mummycav and her post which featured the toughness of we runners and the fact that we would never be put off by a drop of rain.....so I had to go! The rain got steadily worse, I was splashing through puddles which, despite the torch, I couldn't see because my varifocals had steamed up! No artificial light in the woods. I encountered one chap who seemed surprised by my appearance and said that he thought that he was about to be mugged! I said "I am 67"; he trumped that with 70! We parted on good terms though. Funny people about!
The rain just got heavier and heavier, but I had to plod on and finish my 14k..it is in the plan so had to be done!! The pace turned out to be 7:14/km, which wasn't too bad for me. No pace management involved; I couldn't read my watch. I only knew I had finished because of the extra long watch buzz at the end of the run.
I seem to have run 29k this week.....may have misread the plan! Need to get my act together!
Fun though! ๐

Wow what a Trooper you are Beachcomber. I have a wonderful vision of you running through the woods with steamed up glasses and a torch. No wonder your fellow traveller was surprised. Well done for doing 14k in that weather.
It poured with rain all day here so apart from going to Pilates and exercising my right to vote, I spent the rest of the day indoors setting up and decorating the Christmas tree and decorations around the house. Tomorrow is set fair so I want to get that run in too.
Iโm sure youโll be fine for parkrun. Iโll be tailwalking at parkrun as Iโm doing a Reindeer Dash on Sunday. Photos will follow...........๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ ๐ผ๐คถ๐ป
This is amazing Beachcomber66 ...I'm glad I popped into your head and you nailed that run, flippin 14k??? You are a machine!!! Absolutely proud of you, you are doing so well...and at 67, well, what can I say? I hope I'm as fit , determined and amazing as you when I get there
โWhat doesnโt kill you makes you strongerโ said I think Nietzsche. Well done BC - real moral fibre demonstrated! I was working today, but the weather was absolutely foul. Looking better tomorrow, so I might just go for a little jogette ๐
He did indeed. The truth is that I am always ok once I am out there. He also said something about there being no better life purpose than to perish in attempting the great and the impossible... not planning to take things that far ๐คฃ
Brilliant, well done! I ran in the heavy rain and it was much nicer than I expected. But to run in the dark and for that distance as well - much kudos to you!
We started about the same time... Yep I wish I'd started earlier in life too, cant beleive how much I love this running malarkey when I always hated it! ๐ But we've discovered it now, so let's have fun n enjoy it. ..๐
Sounds grim JP. I am happy to limit my political activity to voting, but system wouldnโt work without people giving up their time, so thanks, whoever you were supporting.
Lol, that does sound a lot..maybe you've read it upside down, start at 13 miles and work down ๐
That 70 year old sounds a bit shifty to me, maybe he was about to mug you but then thought anyone that's mad enough to be out running in this must be made of tough stuff or crazy! ๐คช
He didnโt have a light with him so I guess he had misjudged the length of his walk/ timing of nightfall. I quite like the dark, but not everybody is as mad as me, fortunately. ๐งโโ๏ธ
