Some might recognize me from the 10K forum and I come here, crawling in and hoping I am allowed to join. The name is Evy, I am 40 years old and live in Belgium. I ran 5 or 6 years ago, but did not like it and could not keep it up. But last year (2020) mid November I restarted running with C25K and now I actually like (love) running. I run a bit slower now and Jeff and in the meanwhile I have succeeded in running three 10K's.
As mentioned, I Jeff my runs. This with a ratio of 4min30 / 0min30, which is my preferred ratio. It allows me to do longer runs while still remaining fresh enough and having enough energy left by the end of my runs. I know some people are against Jeffing, saying it isn't running. But I do the distance, mostly running, so...
Like I said before, I have run three 10K's in the meanwhile, the last one being 2 weeks ago. I am planning on doing another one on Sunday, to participate in the world record attempt. It will depend on how I will feel though, as I will get my third covid jab this evening. We'll see...
Anyhow, I hope I am allowed to join you all here, despite me having run only three 10K's so far and nothing longer. My goal at the moment is to run 5K's during the week (2 times if possible) and a long run in the weekend (hopefully regularly a 10K). Whenever I do a long run which ends up in a 10K, I will check how I feel and whether I can add a little bit to the distance. I hope that this way I will reach 10 miles some day...
Anyhow, hello and I hope you don't kick me out :-).
Hi Evy π Welcome! Youβll probably recognise lots of names from the other forums and youβll make new running friends along the way here too π
It sounds as if you have a good routine going there, just adding to your long run will definitely get you to your next goal of 10 miles. There will be others here who will be working on the same target so you wonβt be alone and this is a perfect place to share how you're doing or ask any questions.
Good luck and, most importantly, have fun and enjoy yourself π€
It's much the same folks in here as you're familiar with in the Bridge forum.
Your plan seems very sensible, and it's similar to how I extended my own distances. (Except mine was the opposite psychology: I'd go out with the intention of doing a certain distance and give myself permission to stop at a shorter distance if things weren't feeling right.)
Hiya and yes I have seen some names I recognize, haha. Though it does feel like I'm the kid amongst the big adults now. I'll be happy if I reach 10 miles in a year, let alone longer distances. But reading the stories here inspires me to keep at it π
Hello Evy. Nice to see you here. If you can run 10K, you can run 10 miles. Itβs just a case of building up slowly. Looking forward to reading about your progress. And of course no one is going to kick you out!
No need to feel awkward, we all came up the same ladder! π
I used to very much feel that walking breaks ruined a run but it's whatever works for you. On super long runs I now walk to eat, check my map, or up the hills to save energy. My sis in law used to laugh at me when I would stop my watch if I stopped running. She runs crazy long ultras and definitely knows the power of a walk break!
You can def do 10 miles, no question... the question is really... how much further will you go... π€£ππ»
