Shoe advice…..

My running shoes are ASICS trail shoes so I need new shoes for my HM road event in October.

Should I get road or mixed terrain (my usual route is combination of road and trails ) ?

Would prefer to try shoes first because my feet are wide but would prefer not to spend too much so looking at online sales.

Does anyone run in Karrimor tempo…..Are they a wide fitting and suitable for running a HM?

I would try to stick to the same brand at least. You probably don't want to change your shoes too much at this stage in your training.

If you can, get a gait analysis at a good running shop and they’ll recommend shoes suitable for you. You can ask for old stock as they are normally much better priced, it’s the new models that are the most expensive.

I know Brooks are wider fitting than some but what suits one person might not suit another so you’re better going somewhere to try various models on.

Very helpful thank you 😊. I am neutral. My current pair of ASICS are size 7, usually I go up half a size but the 6.5 were too tight round the toes. So I am wary about getting another pair of ASICS.

I’ve got Nike road shoe Pegasus Shield 36 and it’s the darnedest grippiest road shoe i ever had. The 35 was great but this one’s better. Weather resistant they’re described as. I go off-road in these all the time! I don’t think I’ve used a trail shoe since I had these. I got them for my November marathon. It’s likely to be icy and/or slick. There’s some off-road too. I am trying to track down another pair 🙂

I had the road and trail version of the karrimor Tempo and got on famously with them. I wore the trail shoes for ages, having done C25k in them 🥰, and once retired I washed them and used them for my gym sessions 😁. The comment I’d make about the road version is that it’s not grippy enough on slick surfaces. Extremely comfy but I’d save them for dry weather I have a wide foot but the standard version of these was fine for me. I tried them on first 🙂

My other fave road shoe, which I regularly offloaded in was the Saucony Kinvara but they narrowed them off so I gave up. They do say though that they got wider again at version 10 but I can’t vouch for that having not tried one on. They should be cheap enough by now as they’re on iteration 13 Ithink They are 4mm drop and a bit minimal. Soft enough though. I ran a marathon in em 🙂

Karrimor were my first trainers for C25K when my old Nikes from many years ago fell apart!! had no problems with them . Happy shoe hunting!! I need some new ones too

Inov 8 shoes have great wide toe boxes, although I can't speak for overall width because I don't have wide feet. They do a hybrid shoe, billed as 'road to trail', called Parkclaw. I haven't tried those, but I have a pair of their road shoes: Roadclaw 😄 I think they would be fine for a half marathon, actually I have some Inov 8 trail shoes too, which I have run 50K+ in. Note though that Inov 8s are a fairly hard ride, so if you want more cushioning your Karrimors might be a better bet!

I’d stick to a road or hybrid shoe by Asics - all their shoes across every range are (or at least were) 8mm drop. I’d definitely not try switching to anything with less of a drop at this stage.

Thank you Maddee 😊 I am just concerned about width. I had to buy 7 instead of 6.5 in the trail shoes but the shoes are still splitting at the sides. 🤔

Don't really know anything about the best shoes for long distances but have you thought about men's shoes? In usually a 7.5 but I do have broad feet and both my New Balance road shoes and Salomon trail shoes are size 8 mens. I find there's more room in the toe box and although I have quite narrow heels, heel lock lacing does the trick and I get no slipping.My previous size 8 wonens Asics split at the sides after 2 months

Thanks, hadn’t thought of that really since I am only size 6 usually. I think II need to go for a proper fitting and ask for wide fitting shoes 😊

Men’s are a bit wider so you cd try a man’s shoe on
