I did a 22K training longrun yesterday in some shoes that I thought might be good for both longrun training and the actual event. They are everything I like in a shoe - very lightweight, cushioned, absolutely neutral, totally silent when running. I had only done short 5K's in them so this was the first time for a longrun in them. They performed nicely as expected - no problems at all until around 18K, started to get sore metatarsal pads underfoot (mainly the 1st metatarsal (big toe)). It was almost like the shoes were telling me "Hey, I am happy getting you to the HM - but don't ask me to go around again!! ) BUT - this morning I have no metatarsal pad soreness at all - feet feel "normal" . So I don't know now what to think I don't have many other options really - most shoes I have tried that are wide enough for my feet are too heavy, too noisy, TOO cushioned and ALL have some kind of arch support (even those which claim to be neutral) . Might just have to suck it up and see how my next longrun 24K goes - above the HM distance now and I am sailing in uncharted waters!!!

I sympathise with all that. I use marathon socks too but at these longer distances blisters and hot spots are a feature, well for me they are. Ive got various shoes, none of which are perfect. For the reasons you’ve stated the ones you’ve chosen might be the right choice 💪👍😃
I can’t really help as the most distance I’ve run is 10 miles. I wish you good luck and happy healthy feet.
I've never yet had a pair of shoes that were comfy straight out of the box. Toe cramp, the odd blister or hot spots are usually what I've got to look forward for the first couple of weeks until they bed in, or my feet do... Not massively uncomfortable, and sometimes experimenting with lacing styles helps. But there's always something.
I bought new shoes yesterday. Very patient sales assistant talked me through and let me try on about 8 pairs of road shoes. I basically kept swapping, keeping the most comfortable and rejecting the least. Final pair turned out to be in the sale (2018 model NB 1080's). Top result.
It's difficult, but if one is spending a long time on one's feet they will eventually get sore. It could be that the training will help toughen them up a bit - here's hoping! The shoes sound good though 😊
It's so difficult finding the right shoes when you can't try them on a 10 mile run before you buy.
I am lucky to have found by chance that my feet suit Nike Lunarglide 8. It's been superseded now but I just picked up a new purple pair on eBay for £50, my third pair. Won't need them for about another 100 miles but good to know I've got them ready and waiting.
Sounds like your shoes are almost perfect. Maybe your feet will toughen up or get used to them?
