Good morning runners! Today marked the end of 8 weeks to go on the NRC half marathon training plan, quite a tough but enjoyable week, finished with a 15km today!
Quite a cool drizzley morning so put on my running jacket to keep worst of the rain off, kept the shorts with no leggings as didn't want to get too hot.
Split the run into 3 simple 5km sections and tried to run each 5km in under 30mins (25 mins being my fast 5k and sub 30 being fairly easy pace).
First 5k kept purposely slow, trying to be around 6min per km and was pretty close completing in just under 30mins.
Second 5km felt a little easier but kept the speed steady and again came in under 30mins.
The third and final 5km felt tough, especially on the uphill sections! Picked it up enough over the last 2k though to finish the 15km in 1hr28mins, very pleased to be able to maintain the speed over quite a tough run π
Hope everybody is well and enjoying your weekend ππ»

Iβm doing that plan and am just heading out for a ten miler. I will be going slowly throughout. Iβm not bothering with pace, just finishing the darned thing will do me π
I was tempted to continue on for the 10 miles as I was practically there π€£ but decided to stick with the plan π€£ good luck on your run πͺπ»πͺπ»
Yeah best stick to the plan. She said, having missed yesterdayβs 12 km π« Iβve hurt my ribs with extreme allotmenteering π I took a day off running but it means missing ticking off a run which I hate to do. Needs must so I wonβt dwell on it π
Had my porridge π₯£ and Iβm off. The sunβs coming out, but itβs overcast and breezy. Thatβll do ππββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
Well done on sticking to the plan and it seems to be a well recommended one. I am using it to get back to 10 miles and Iβm enjoying the chats from the various trainers.
I have to say, your definition of slow is very different to mine. Iβve yet to run a 30 min 5k , let alone 3 on the trot, but will keep trying.
Thank you, yeah pace is relative I'm lucky to be able to go fairly quick even when shuffling along π€£ keep practicing those 5ks and I'm sure the sub 30 will come ππ»ππ»
Brilliant Jericho. I did that same run recently and remember being advised to split it into 5k chunks. I did, but believe me they werenβt as fast as yours! Well done. πππ
Thank you, I wasn't sure if be able to maintain it for 3 but the body is an amazing thing! It's nice to realise the hard work is paying off when seeing improvements in stamina like this ππ» already working out in my head how to maintain it for the extra 7km for HM distance.... And then being scared silly thinking about doing it for an entire marathon! π€£
Well one thing I know for sure is that Iβll never be attempting a marathon (unless I ever got a ballot place in London β¦.. π€). Iβm sure youβd romp it! π
You train for it - about 16 - 20 weeks. You run slower so you can have legs all the way through. Jeff Galloway run/walk method got me through my first and second marathons π
It's a really good plan ππ» wasn't sure I'd enjoy being told when to run and how far but it certainly breaks up my routine and keeps me guessing each day, plus the guided runs help to pass the time (I have that and music on).
Good luck with the rest of the plan, I'm enjoying reading how everybody is getting on with it ππ»
