Update of HM training

Good morning runners! Happy Friday to all πŸ‘πŸ»

Had to take nearly a week off from running due to some massive blisters I got when walking in inappropriate shoes last Sunday, wasn't a complete load though as got back in the gym for first time in ages so had a few sessions in there this week.

Today I decided to run again as Im close to the end of 9 weeks to go on NRC HM training, I knew it was long run day and can't say I was massively keen on going 🀣 but go I did!

Today was 8mile/13 km and the furthest I'd ran in a long time, forgot my Garmin (great start!) Km warm up walk, stretches and away!

First 5km was uneventful, pretty average pace for myself, purposely kept it slow as knew there was a long way to go. Could have easily stopped after this, breathing was good pace was ok but felt tired.

Next 5km felt slower, legs felt heavier and breathing was tougher but despite all that was surprised to discover I'd set my 3rd fastest 10km ever! REALLY wanted to stop had to force myself on.

Last 3km felt like running through tar! 🀣 Never seemed to end, legs like lead, breathing heavy and soaked in sweat!

Massively glad I kept on though! 😁 No long run until late next week now, just lovely speed runs and intervals 🀣🀒

Have a great weekend!

Well done on the run, your HM plan seems to be going well, i was looking back at my runs, and not even done a 10k for 3 months now, when i do run, i still enjoy it, and the fitness is still there, just dont seem to have the time for longer runs, i'm back on furlough now till sept, so will try and get some longer runs in, good luck for the footy tomorrow! βš½οΈπŸ˜€

Cheers Peter and you mate πŸ‘πŸ» yeah sounds like a good time to build up some longer runs. Not sure why I'm building back up to HM but I'm enjoying the plan πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

Super well done on a great run, and especially for getting through the last 3k of tar! I’ve certainly been there, the only thing that’s kept me going is knowing if I stop I have longer to walk home! But you said ta ta to the tar, brilliant 🀩. πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ

Very interesting reading! I’m planning my first HM in September and am now getting into the longer training runs too - I think this weekend calls for 15km. Also hitting similar times to you and beginning to wonder what time I should be aiming for - that sub 2 hour target is so tempting but maybe I won’t be able to maintain the pace during the β€˜tar’ stage.

Thank you, good luck with the training! I managed it in 2:14:52 in February, i havnt looked back at my splits since but may now be worth a read πŸ€”

Febs HM splits above... Yeah I'd say could shave a bit off that to get under 2 hours πŸ€” the risk is going to hard and burning out I suppose. I'd say build toward it gradually and you will have a great chance come race day πŸ‘ŒπŸ»
