When to schedule long runs

β€’6 Replies

Hi all, I hope you are well and enjoying your running 😊 so I've started a HM training plan and its comprised of an easy, tempo and long run. The long run typically is the 3rd (last run), my question is does it matter/what will the impact be if I run the long run in the middle, as in run #2 in the schedule?

Thanks in advance 😁

Yeah welcome to the madness 🀣

No not at all I think, I've always just ran how I feel..

Sticking to the 3 runs a week.. a 5k a longer run.. and just went with how I felt on the day..

Just enjoy your running, that's working out best for me ☺️

Good luck whatever you choose πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜

Plans are there to be adapted to fit your life! So long as you givevyourself enough recovery time after the long run and the speed run, and run the long run at an easy pace, you will be fine to change the order of the runs. Good luck and have fun!

Thanks for the reply Linda, it's good to know I my runs around life, I was doing my long run a day before a HIT class and found I was exhausted on my rest day! Have a lovely day πŸ™‚

The other thing you can do is just move the start of your week. So if you plan is something like a short run on day 2, a tempo on day 4 and a long run on day 7, but you want to run your long run on Thursdays then just start your week from Friday. πŸ™‚

Thanks Impetuous I had not thought of it that way, great tip thank you πŸ‘
