This morning was the first ten mile run of HM training and my first ever 10 mile run! A perfect morning to run: cool and dry. Uneventful, too! Just what was needed. I'd planned the route and the distance was exactly right when followed. No repeated circuits of the town park before I could go home as happened when I miscalculated the 15K route.

A little disappointed with the pace but I'll take it. My legs were very heavy at the end and I was out of energy. The four Jelly Babies which I'd allowed myself of the way round may have helped a little πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ but obviously not quite enough.

Next week is W6 to go of the NRC plan (actually I have 9 weeks before the event)

Stretches completed and although my legs are now tired there are no noticeable niggles 🀞

And then lovely afternoon spent while my family got together to meet grandchild no 6 who is only three weeks old. 😍Much to be thankful for today.

🌸😊🌸

Well done. That's a pretty good pace for any 10 miler, let alone your first one. I ran a 1:48:54 this morning, (my best being 1:34:29). I'd say you're sidly on your way to achieving HM and 9 weeks is more than enough time to get you there.Enjoy your achievement then keep building; but I'd say you've got this...

Congratulations on your first 10 mile achievement! You can have a bright new shiny badge!!! You're very close to HM distance now, and with 9 weeks to go you should have no problem being in a great place for your event.

What a fab day! Your first 10 miler and seeing your lovely grandchild! πŸ˜€ It’s always good to tackle a new distance at a slowed down pace, so I really wouldn’t worry about that -all sounds as though it is going well with your training!πŸ‘πŸ‘

Well done CNS! Faster than my 10 mile PB, don’t knock that pace. πŸ˜… You’re going to have no trouble running your HM, that’s for sure. πŸ‘πŸ‘

Hope you enjoyed cuddling your tiny new grandchild. πŸ₯°β€οΈ Wow, number six, how wonderful! My daughter is expecting her second in September. ❀️

That’s amazing 🀩! Super well done, and a really good time. I did my first 10 miles a few weeks or so ago and I was on a high for about a week, it feels really good and such an achievement - hurrah Comfortnotspeed ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

Congratulations and well done! When you drive this distance in the car it always seems a long old way πŸ’ͺwhich it is of course!

I’m impressed about the jelly babies too - I don't like them but they obviously work for you πŸ™‚

Thank you! I’m rather confused about taking on energy during a longer run. To be honest, probing a hot sticky jellybaby out of my pocket and then eating it on the run wasn’t the nicest, but yes, it did seem to work πŸ˜‚

It’s all an experiment. Some people don’t take anything and others take all sorts. I use to take dates which were good, a bit sticky to get out of the cling film though. Then home-made flapjacks which are very tasty πŸ˜‹

I know someone who uses jelly beans because the hard shell isn't as sticky as jelly babies. Personally, I prefer a bowl of porridge made with oats and water (that's an hour or two before the run, I don't run with a bowl of porridge).

As IP wrote, it's a case of experimenting to find what works for you.

Also, congratulatons on reaching ten miles, that's a great acheivement and, as others have noted, you're preparing well for your HM.

Thank you! I’d go with porridge or flapjacks but I run first thing. That means waking up ultra early to hydrate but doesn’t allow time to eat anything. I need to research. My reading up on gels just puts me off.

Going to have to change your name I think. Great first 10 miles; 111 metre elevation gain is quite a challenge too. Awesome 🀩

Well done on your achievement, that's a great pace.

I know what you mean about being confused about taking on energy. I've been reading loads about it too, and don't fancy gels either - what do you do with the sticky empty sachet??? I like jelly babies but not the Bassett’s ones. The powder coating on that brand is a bit yeuchy with a dry mouth. Haribo do jelly baby friends (two babies holding hands) which aren't covered in powder. I cut them in half and keep them in a little resealable plastic bag in my waist pouch. I too had a sticky experience with them in my pocket - never again!

Good idea! Everything I’ve read about gels puts me off, too.
