So I decided to run 14K this morning but ended up running 10 miles, my second ever 10 miles, my first was last year in July, this mornings time was a little slower than last year's run, but nevertheless I enjoyed my run this morning. π ππΎ
2nd Ten Miles Run: So I decided to run... - Fun Beyond 10K & ...
2nd Ten Miles Run
Brilliant run Al. Clearly summer conditions agree with you. Good sensible pace too.π
Congratulations Al on your second ever 10 mile run. Well done! πππAnd you enjoyed it too which is great π
Excellent. Good run. Nice day for it too.
Thanks Deals 1, the temperature was 12C with no sun to heat me up during the run so it was a very nice day for my second 10 miles run, only now at 12.40 pm the sun is trying to break through the clouds.
Yay, well done AlMorr ! πββοΈ
Well done! π
Blooming brilliant well done you very good very strong take care
Woo hoo!!! Brilliant Al πͺ really well done to you π
Between 8Cand 15C are the best temperatures for running, if the temperature is above 20C/68F its advisable only to run no more than 10K.
Have you noticed the temperature in moderately cool Vancouver over recent days, they have had an awful heatwave with the temperature well over 40C, even the minimum temperature is not below 25C, certainly no running there.
Thatβs a good run Al,
It was a good run for me today W&S, thanksπ
Long way so you must be smiling a lot now
I am smiling now, I am now going to take Holly the dog a walk
Have a good one
I have just come back from my walk with Holly the dog, after this morning's run I wasn't in the mood for running with Holly which often happens, just a πΆ walk this afternoon. π, anyway it's getting a bit too warm for running, that's why I ran this morning just before 8 o'clock.
Amazing, a very good run for you today! Your slow and steady pace would have me struggling for breath over 5k, let alone 10 miles π€£
Brilliant, Al! Is this going to become an annual event, I wonder? π
Thanks, not sure about an annual event grumpyoldgirl, probably not, I am just thinking that from now on 10K will be my longest distance, every time I run more than 10K I start to slow down, so 10K from now on will be the maximum distance I ππΎ run.
Sounds sensible βΊοΈ
I am now 75 years old, I find running 5K or 10K runs comfortable without feeling too tired, I am not really in the mood now to start any of those Half Marathon plans that are here on the Marathon and Support Forum, perhaps if I had been 45, not 75 I would have done that.
I weighed myself yesterday, I was 65 kilograms and my BMI index just under 23 which is OK.
Well you are slightly senior to me, I'm a mere 63. But having got within a whisker of 10k before I broke my ankle, I'm being much more cautious now I've started week 1 of c25k again. I definitely want to get to 5k, but then I'll have a good long think about how much more I'm able to do. I can't see me ever bothering to go further, even if I hadn't bust my ankle!I've just gone off and checked my bmi and it's the same as yours, although I have got to shift a couple of pounds off my middle. I expect I'll sort that out as I get more active again.
Well done Al! Excellent run πππ
Brilliant run ! Glad that it was nice and cool for you. You really are running well at the moment .Congratulations πππ
I have just got in from work and need to run this evening but at the moment it's too warm and humid. Not a breath of air! It will have to be a late one I think when it cools down Its only 30 minutes-I really should have gone before work instead of drinking coffee!
Thank you Week7, a little tip for your run, look up the local sunset time for your area and start your run around 30 minutes before the sun sets, that way it should be a bit less warm and humid, good luck.
Well done AL MORR where do you get your energy? Mr D super impressed. When you go out in the car and go for 10 miles you canβt imagine at times how far it is and you ran it. I walked 13 km two weeks ago past Sunday in 2 hours 3mins.it was a long way. Not so sure if I could run it . Never ran for ages now on the walking so far injury free except for blisters on bunion of all places . Well done againππππββοΈ
Where do I get my energy from, you ask, ha, not sure, I have gone long walks during the winter months and bike rides during the summer months for a long time, I only started running as you know in April 2018, but I decided today that from now on, 10K will be my longest run, I am 75, not 45, if I was 45 I probably would be able to run longer distances such as 10 miles and half marathons in a regular basis, I am quite comfortable with 5K and 10K runs so from now on those will be the distances I run. ππΎ
PS, during March when I was doing the COGH Challenge I went a walk with the MapMyWalk app recording my distance, this was quite a long walk, I thought it would be at least 10 miles, in fact, it was a little less than 10 miles, although a different route than I did on Wednesday it made me realise as you say regarding the car for 10 miles how long that is in distance, I would not want to run that same route as I walked as it 'seemed longer' than the circular route I ran on Wednesday.
Well done Al! Great achievement π
Great stuff AlMorr ! You were clearly feeling good to push on to that second special 10 miles! Well done!πππ
Excellent run AlMorr, I like planning distance in advance and then doing a little more. That feels less daunting. Good temperature too. I have to start early to avoid anything over 15. At 70 I'm wondering if 10miles is my limit...did the first a couple of weeks ago and now building up each week from 10k again.
Thanks, I also think that 10 miles is my limit as well, I was thinking that from now on I will concentrate on 3k, 5k, 8k and no more than 10K runs, every time I run over 11K I do start to slow down, for yesterday's run all my 1k splits were under 8km/min, but between 12K and 16 K they were 8.07, 8.06, 8.15, 8.22 and 8.25, so I think from now on 10K will be my longest distance I run.
Respect to you Almorr! Wishing you many more enjoyable short or long runs, the choice is yours and how great to have that choice! - best wishes βΊοΈ
Well done Al another great run ππ»
Thatβs great , Al. Have you got a third 10 miler in mind, or perhaps go for a HM?
Well done Al. Itβs always nice when you feel like going beyond what you had planned especially when it gives you a special distance ππ
Well done on adding another 10 mile run to your tally.
Superb ππ»π always good to stretch yourself now and then. ππ»
Great run for you AIMorr, you chose a good weather day for it ππ
Top job Al. Longer runs are really enjoyable imho.
They are Johnm12 but I am thinking that 10K from now on will be the longest distance for me to run. π ππΎ π
Sounds good to me. Al. I really like 10k distance too. Usually I can find a route from home and out into the countryside. Definitely the best therapy. My favourite route ends with the last 1Km being steady downhill. Very good for morale. Keep on running!
Well done Al, 10 miles is no mean feat. Have a medal π
Thank you Dexy on awarding me that medal for running my second 10 miles run, that is the 2nd medal I have, the first for me being the London Vitality Virtual 10,000, I am glad that you enjoyed your day out a Wimbledon πΎ
Andy will have us on the edge of our seats again this evening Al
No doubt he will πΎ
Update:- Saturday morning, despite that 10 miles run on Wednesday, this Saturday morning I ran my 55th not parkrun in a reasonable time of 32.55, last year after my 1st 10 miles run on the Wednesday, the following Saturday my 5K not parkrun was around almost 37 minutes., so that must mean that I am recovering more quickly from those longer runs. ππΎ
Awesome distance covered. Well done to you ππΈππΈ
Well done mate!
Thanks mrrun, I can't see me ever running a Ultramarathon, although when I was younger I cycled 50K or more during the summer months.
I did my 50k on 5 July, probably one of the best running memories ever. There was not a cloud anywhere. Two weeks before, during the first attempt, I suffered a terrible cramp in my thigh, pain was incredible, to the point of me thinking I broke something. I dehydrated. Although I trained and experimented with higher temperatures, one glitch stopped me after 31km. I couldn't walk. Two weeks later I made sure I top up my electrolyte levels a bit better (and there was a helping chocolate bar as well). It worked but we need to be mindful of every little aspect. The temperature may be the same but if humidity is higher the game will change. Heat can be an awful enemy if not fought correctly. π
Lovely reply from you mrrun, I have always made sure I am well hydrated before any of my bike rides and now any runs, I learned my lesson when I was a teenager, I had gone a long bike ride, the temperature was +25C, humid and sunny, no liquid with me, I got home in a state of collapse, I think my parents even phoned the doctor, of course that had never happened again, lesson learnt..
Superb! I still think that half is not far away Al!
