Today I ran a really steady low heart rate 10 mile run and it felt so comfortable and I was really happy. Averaged 11.09 per mile. As usual, no music and my normal route around the Humber Bank. I'm aiming for an18 mile run next week and two weeks later a 20 mile run. I'm happy doing my own thing so will just keep on keeping on. VO2 max seems good too π
Ten miles really comfy: Today I ran a... - Fun Beyond 10K & ...
Ten miles really comfy
Wow. Thatβs all! πππ
What a great run. Really well done! π₯π₯π₯
Thank you. Really appreciate it π
Your fitness age is 20, excellent, congratulations on that run GTFC, nice and easy, good luck for your 18 mile run next week πββοΈππ
Thank you Al!
Lovely run!!!
Ah you were in your β happy paceβ. Sounds a great run GTFC. Your VO2 is impressive too. Do you run in zone 3?
Yes, on this run Garmin said mainly all of it in this zone. Strava has it in zone 2 but it's great wherever I am π€·ββοΈ after doing it for a while now the benefits are insane π
I really struggle to get into zone 3 but my pace is easy and I am not out of breath. I donβt think I understand the zones. Anything slower Iβd be walking.
It can be over complex really. For me if you are running markedly slower than normal for longer and are comfortable then go with it π
If you've got a Garmin the max is set as a standard I guess for age/sex...Tasha suggested resetting your heart rate zones by looking back at previous runs to find your own max (a bit time consuming but worthwhile in my case as Garmin had mine set as I think180/182 max yet looking back I'd reached 192 three times (and 197 once which I ignored as it seemed to be an anomaly)...so I set my max heart rate at 192 and it recalculated my zones based on that. I now generally run in zone 4 on long runs with some in 3 on my shorter runs.
After my Half Marathon plan finishes I'm going to have a go at some zone 3 training as it feels more achievable now π
Thatβs fantastic, well done π
I had booked on for the Humber bridge half this year and was really looking forward to it. Hopefully next year instead though. Is it possible to walk across the Humber bridge on a normal day?
What an amazing run GTFC and just look at your fitness age. You are a young thing π€£ππππππ
πππ if only it was reality π
Ha ha. Thaβs nowt burra lad π
Good running there π. Sounds ticketty-boo that does. Itβs great when things come together πββοΈ
I wonβt be coming to your neck of the woods in Sept or Nov as both races are off π€π€¨βΉοΈ
Thank you π I was running part of the Hull Marathon in a team of 4 for Barnardo's (who I work for) and that's the sole reason I started C25k in November last year. I was down to do the smallest part but now I can do at least half! I've just kept running really because I've come to love it so much. Coming from Essex I've no idea what 'Thaβs nowt burra lad' means π€·ββοΈ
Great progress GTFC (slight understatement), looking forward to giving zone 3 training a go myself when my HM plan finishes in a couple of weeks π
'Tha's nowt burra lad' if you're not teasing about it not making sense, roughly translates to 'You're nothing but a lad' π
πππππ
I came late to this running lark but itβs fab int it π€.
It's the real deal π
Great stuff GTFC! Doing your own thing seems to be working! π
Thank you, really appreciate it. I just go on the day how I feel. I have a minimum distance every time (5m) and see how I feel from there. I feel strong and fit and could have gone further but my experience told me to be happy at 10 which I was π
Your Garmin clearly lives you more than mine for me. I'm 49 (for a few more weeks) and I've never managed to get my VO2Max above 40 and my fitness age below 45. *sulks*
Great running on your part though.
That sounds like a lovely run. Well done. Great fitness age - impressive! But great that your running that distance and feeling good. Fantastic.
Eeerrr...hello!! GTFC, 10 miles βcomfyβ and youβre 20 years old too! Drop the mic π€!
π±π±! Thatβs amazing!! Well done you!! π€©β€οΈ
Thank you! I think now I've been running a bit it's experience. I graduated C25k on Jan 10th this year and I've just consistently averaged 3 runs per week throughout the year and recently after Tasha99's advice I have run longer and more comfortable. I'll be 47 in October and feel as fit as I ever have done π
Thatβs just brilliant GTFC!! Like a fine wine getting better and better as time goes on!! Perfect!ππ½
I love reading about your achievements too π. Keep it coming and of course celebrating those achievements. 20 π²...we may have to start calling you Benjamin Button! In a very complimentary way of course! π€©π€©π€β€οΈ
Also, youβve made me ponder. Iβd love to be able to write that on this forum some day: βten miles, really comfyβ. So, Mr GTFC, that is my new long-term goal: ten miles, really comfy.
Oooohh yes!! Well done you π you'll get there too. I did nearly edit the title because I never ever want to sound like it's easy or I'm particularly good or showing off. I'm not that type of person. The actual magic is consistency. That is it π€·ββοΈ going out in all weathers regularly whatever the weather really is the answer. Over the months I've learned to hydrate and stretch every day. Then running slower for longer and building up makes you feel so good and you feel your breathing just like walking so when you stop you don't feel overly out of breath. I'll be thinking of you and cheering you on all the way because you can and will do it π
I think thatβs one of the reasons why I like this forum, achievements are never about βshowing offβ just about recognising the challenge of reaching a new milestone. Itβs rather funny that βrather comfyβ could be someoneβs dream!! π€£
Iβm glad you didnβt change the title. If I ever can truthfully say that, I want it on a t-shirt!!
I always find it amazing how genuinely pleased I feel for people on this forum when they have achieved something, even though we donβt know each other, itβs just great knowing that people are taking control of their own health and actively engaging in something thatβs of great benefit.
That is a superb run in every respect; bet you could almost feel it doing you good! Your running is in a really great plzce.πππππ
Thank you, I definitely have learned to love these times of feeling fit. I want to eventually have a crack at a FM at least once, just on my own-not at an event. It's hard when you are injured as you just want to get out there again. I do love running and this programme changed me a lot x
Oldfloss has been saying for years that long slow runs are best - this just proves it GTFC. Well done.
Thank you. The support, encouragement and advice of others are what makes this place so special.
