Well....today's long run was to be 11k...building up gradually etc...I started at 5am after a short drive to the sea. Temperature was a cool 5', perfect for me. Jumper on for 3k( could have done with gloves) , but a beautiful bright morning with noone around bar rabbits and birds. Did my normal long run route through woodland and heath to the sea, extending it but taking different tracks and then doubling back. I took my first ever tumble over a tree route...was so lucky to do little damage bar scraped arm and a lump on my knee. To quote what I used to say to my youngest when she was learning to ride a two wheeler 30 years ago, and fell off regularly, "pick yourself up, dust yourself down and start all over again"..... so I did, limping a bit to start with. When I got to the sea it was low tide and so beautiful so I decided to run the last 5k across the sand. My self talk was going like this...' I know I was only planning on 11k but what if I just carry on? Conditions are pretty perfect. Not too hot, no wind, sunny, low tide....yeah, but you know what they say about building up incrementally.... Yes....but....I'd only have to do an extra 2,5k at the end and then double back on the beach for 2.5 and I've done it "...... I'm sure you recognise the scenario... So, I carried on and was so scared that somehow it wouldn't register the right distance that I did a bit extra...16.53k
Totally π. Brilliant supportive forum with people who understand just what the running bug and challenges are all about. Medal pleeease.

Ouch, I hope you feel better soon. But I suspect you think it was worth in any case !I took my first running tumble in my one and only half marathon a few weeks ago.I got away with grazes and a cut on my hand. I still have a scar on my hand which I consider my badge of honour Who needs π !
Definitely worth it. But would quite like the bling too! Can't see myself doing half marathons. But there again 9 months ago I struggled to run for 90 seconds...and was very definitely only going to do 5k!
Never say never. I started c25k at the end of last May on the same basis as you but one thing led (slowly) to the other! I ran my half marathon (again slowly) in loops around my home town on 1st May this year so you are on a similar scale I think! I am going to try my first real live half marathon "race" for bling in September. Enjoy you running
Gosh...well done on your Hm. I am slow...more a jogger than a runner if truth be told. The only thing I can sprint for is a tennis ball! But I'm happy being slow if I get there in the end. It took me 2.28 hrs, average 9"/k. I reckon the Hm would be another half hour at the very least.
Well done, what a super run πββοΈ. Thatβs over 10 miles! I did something similar recently, I kept going because the conditions and how I felt all came together, it just felt right. I bet youβre over the moon π, you should be very proud! πππ
Thanks Frenc... Absolutely over the moon, keep telling myself ' I've done it!!' it could be too hot most of the summer so I just had to go for it...a few days rest now...
If you relentlessly follow the 10% increase per week rule, you're three weeks away from a HM (21.1km), and five weeks away from a metric marathon (26.22km).
Consolidating for a few weeks is a good idea, though.
This time last year I was attempting C25K Week 1 for the third time! (The first two attempts failed: first in March didn't advance beyond W1, the second in April got to the end of W2 and had to stop.)
Wow Mormor, you meant business today didnβt you? Not even a tumble could prevent you from going beyond your original goal and your shiny new 10 mile badge is well deserved indeed. π π
Oh, and if you can go from 0-10 miles in 9 months, you can certainly build up to HM by the way. Just saying. π
Want to see how stiff I am today!! I have club tenniythis morning and a match this evening, if I'm still relatively ok at the end if it, I will certainly think about it....I do like something to work towards tho!
Thanks IP, I was indeed very happy, even a bit emotional, to think I'd really achieved that distance.... Tumble club was not one I'd been desperate to join, but I'm glad I got it over with.I've never broken a bone yet but a friend did a fall when walking on uneven slabs and broke her pelvis,so I'm a bit warier than I would have been 10 years ago even.π€
Great run for you - I well remember saying the same phrase to my daughter when she was toddling around. Hope youβre ok now and not too bruised take it easy over the next couple of days though. You might want to get some arnica cream for the bruising - works a treat.
Thanks over62. Yes, it's a good feeling alright. Thought I would be stiff today but actually was OK except arms a a knee a bit sore. I used arnica, good stuff.
Fantastic run. If you can run 16K you can run 21k. Iβm currently using the Nike Run Club Half Marathon Training app for the Hackney Half Marathon on September 26th. Yesterday I struggled to run 8K around Regents Park. I have 12 more weeks to get myself in shape to complete it. The time Iβm aiming for is 3 hours. Iβll bet you can do that.
It is encouraging to hear, 'if you can do 16 you can do 21'.... Wonder where it stops tho!12 weeks sounds a good amount of time tho and it will be cooler by then so easier when you are doing your longer runs.
I think I will set 3 hours on my watch to see where that gets me. Suspect it won't be 13 miles tho, going to take me a bit longer I think.
