Rainy 1st race tips

I have my first ever race tomorrow, Bewl Water 10k, + the forecast is heavy rain...

Any tips? I've not managed to run in any proper rain yet as our bank holiday rain stayed away! I have a lightweight running jacket that I've worn in the cold/wind, but halfway thru a run I usually take it off as I'm too hot.

Do I pin my race number onto my jacket? If I take it off do I have to move it to my top?

Do I use safety pins to attach it?

I wasn't really looking forward to tomorrow after the forecast worsened and I felt grotty yesterday after Covid jab, but feel physically ok today.

Thanks!

What bottoms are you planning on wearing? You could possibly pin your bib on a thigh.

Yes, safety pins.

Do you have a hat with a peak? That would really help keep the rain out of your eyes.

Be sure to bring a set of dry clothes to change into afterwards - you will get very cold otherwise!

Good luck and have fun!!!!!! And remember to post a report on here 😊😊😊

Love the advice here. Many moons ago some kind soul told me about running hats with a good brim. My Ronhill waterproof cap is the best purchase ever. Last year after being soaked on a 20 mile hike I slipped on a footbridge and knocked myself out. I was more upset about the fact that in my confusion I left the hat behind. The next day I walked back and there it was! Can face anything with that! Even planting my face on a plank! 🤣

I've had the same dilemma! I don't want to put pins through my jacket so if I race in the rain I just get wet in a lightweight long sleeved top ... it's generally OK so long as it's not going to be hideously cold too - running keeps you warm! The other option for your bib is your leg as roseabi says. If you are going to be hanging around at the start you could take a bin liner with a 'neckhole' cut in it to wear beforehand to keep warm and dry. Once you start running you'll forget the rain though and focus on the finish line and a nice hot drink and shower!!! Have a great run and we look forward to hearing how it goes.

Thanks for the replies, useful although I don't have a running cap and it's a bit late now...I'm not sure what I'll go with tomorrow - I'm great at indecision - but I'll definitely take clothes and hot chocolate for after. I'm wearing leggings and might pin my number on my thigh. Or on my jacket, or on a long sleeved top...

Don’t wear a jacket. You won’t need one for 10k.
