Roseabi or I will edit this and turn it into a suitably awesome post when we have chance. In the meantime share you results below and keep your race reports coming.
You are absolute superstars and I can't wait to catch up properly tonight
ππππππ
β Roseabi here! And a massive WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO from me tooooooo!!!!
In trying to balance out the headwind and the tailwind I somehow ended up finishing my HM miles from home! Seems to be my jam anyway π Now I have finally got home and eaten all the food I am ready to get with the HU posting.
REALLY REALLY enjoyed listening to Linda's commentary - WHO ELSE TRIED TO LICK THEIR ELBOW??? ADMIT IT IN THE COMMENTS BELOW!!!!!!
Another revelation for me today was having music to listen to, which I haven't done since graduating Couch to 5K back in er January 2015. I confess I didn't use the official playlist but I did borrow quite a few tracks from it. I finished (checking my watch every 5 seconds!!!) to Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater Revival - what did you cross the line to?
Well done and good luck to everyone, whether you've already finished or about to take off! ππππMy results from yesterday: HM in 2hrs48mins π
My results posted here, have just posted a longer report. Thank you to the organisers, love and respect to you all. (Edit for timings, my half marathon time on Runkeeper was be c. 2:14:30)
HM done and dusted. Crossed the 'finish line' at 2:39:1. New PB by a tiny margin. Mentally shaving off a couple more minutes for a loo stop at home halfway round. Hope everyone enjoyed their run x
Hi all! Bib 351 - 10k in 1:07:00 exactly. Good to be building my distance up again after the niggles and I really enjoyed my run on the trails (as ever!π)Only mishap was a technical hitch with Rungo - it failed to play any of the commentary, just piped up at each km! Disappointing but probably down to my poor tech skills and not having explored it properly before the run.
Thank you so much for all your hard work on this Linda and Roseabi! ππππ
Completed my HM in 2:18:02. I loved listening to the rungo commentary but even though I tried no chance of licking my elbow! Thanks so much to linda9389 and roseabi for organising this event π₯° and a massive well done to all who took part π
I already know I can lick my elbow and know better than to try whilst running! π€£ did make me laugh though.
The commentary was brilliant. Very impressed with all the efforts from you two lovely ladies π
1:57:19
Plus 4:54:09 for last Sunday 20 miles 2,900ft ππ»π
No music for me sadly as my music was drowning out the app, couldn't have both so just had the app. Because I'd messed up it was running .5 mile behind me so I actually finished to silence and got the celebration on my cool down walk π€£
Haha! Absolutely amazing run!!! I was trying to calculate the odds of one of us being able to lick our elbow! I could probably lick your elbow too, but that would just be weird!Garmin actually finished before Rungo even though I started them both together - GPS is very iffy in the park where I did the last 8k
Not really used to 10k and itβs been a long time since I put in βrace effortβ (think it was the speed challenge back in Jan 2019). Anyhow, 10k completed in 54:33.
I was originally going to do my 10k on today, but since this opened a day early I decided to run it Saturday afternoon instead as that was more convenient. My time was 1:03:29 - not my quickest, but not bad as was my first 10k for several months, plus I did also stop to take a few photos
Thanks and very well done to linda9389 and the others involved in the organization - it made this a great experience. I enjoyed the playlist (particularly the extended version of Born Slippy!) and the RunGo commentary added some great motivation to keep going π
Hello linda9389 and roseabi ! Thanks again for all your amazing work in organising this. I loved the playlist - well, almost all of it! I didn't use RunGo as this was a very personal run for me and I needed time for my thoughts. I'm hoping to fit in a 10k later this week and give it a go then instead.
Ah, results, you say? Well, I'm bib no. 001 (get me!) and not only was my HM time a PB, at 2:27:44, but I carried on and cracked a metric marathon - admittedly with a bit of Jeffing at the end when my legs seized up - 26.31k with 598m elevation gain. Please may I have a badge?
Even better, my fundraising for the hospice which cared for my late brother-in-law Paul (1958-2008) has now gone past the Β£500 mark.
So I'm a very happy bunny. And yes, I wore the bunny ears in the photo throughout the run. I do not recommend them as a training aid, I spent a crazy amount of time and energy hanging onto them and re-adjusting them. They only fell off once though!
Woman wearing bunny ears, about to run a half- marathon. Yes, really!
Thanks Stephen_UK . It's so rural round here I think I only saw nine people to speak to! I'd prepared little slips of paper explaining what I was doing, so I didn't have to stop too long, and gave out just four. Maybe had about 12-15 cars go past too. People were lovely, I got lots of smiles and thumbs-ups! ππ
Where I live, it's perfectly normal - and actually expected - that you say "Bonjour !" to complete strangers. So it would be pretty rude just to run past people, particularly in my Crazy-Running-Bunny-Lady kit! ππββοΈ
I must also confess to being a bit obsessive at times. When I arrived at my wedding, and the minister asked if I thought everybody was there, I pointed out that I couldn't really pop into the church to check. Whereupon my brother commented that he was surprised I hadn't had all the guests bar-coded! π€£
As for people being friendly, Iβm in London so the few smiles or hellos I get are rare and really do mean a lot. Sometimes I wish I lived in a friendly rural area.
Most people round here will say "hello". Although I've noticed that, on longer runs that take me closer to Bristol, the likelihood of any acknowledgement drops off rapidly as I leave the local area.
Nice one on completing the HUHM and a Metric Marathon. Those bunny ears can't help with the aerodynamics! I guess it wasnβt too windy today where you are? Presumably, the trees help calm the wind down a bit.
Thanks SkiMonday . Fortunately it wasn't windy here today, and yes, the section in the forest and the valleys helped. But pretty much every time I went downhill, or turned into the wind, I was frantically grabbing at the ears!
Thanks linda9389 . After all my panicking about hardly having run recently, and wondering how the hell I was going to do a HM, it seems the work-enforced tapering had its benefits!
Huge thanks to linda9389 and roseabi for organising such a fab event. Loved running round Edinburgh to the playlist. Nice 31.37 first 5k putting me on track for close to a PB, then I turned into a 40kph wind and plodded over the line at 10k in 1.06.02
Thank you both for all your hard work!! Iβm delighted to say I ran a half marathon, and although I slow ran, I did it in 2 hours 34 minutes, which wasnβt as bad as I expected. I also ran up way more hills than I should have. Thank you again for all the effort youβve put into this, the playlist was amazing. I was rocking out to Free Bird π€πΌ
I love the idea that we were all just rocking to the tunes! I thought half marathons were supposed to be hard work, we smashed it! Well done on your run as well, you did amazingly!
Itβs a real fave track of mine. Makes me feel like a free bird for sure ππββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ Yeeeeeeeeeeeha πͺ
Thatβs true. I still canβt believe how enjoyable the whole thing was, before I got into running you have this misconception of it being brutal, I was singing along to Wham and bopping to the beats the whole way, loving life π
Indeed I did, but only with the right encouragement! I still canβt believe I did it. Full marathon next, although that will take some serious training!
10k done this morning - 49m 19s. Pretty chuffed with that. The unexpected hill in the middle nearly finished me off. Looking forward to the HM next Saturday.
Also I should say an extra thank you to linda9389 and misswobble for the encouragement to sign up. I wouldnβt have done it otherwise and so glad that you both talked me into it
HI guys, 10k in 1hr 22" 24secs....well pleased. Was trying to listen to play list on yt but it cut out after 1 track....fell back on the Beatles, they never disappoint. Got the commentary and enjoyed the Edinburgh views whilst trotting along in Dunwich forest. Thanks so much for organizing... It gave me the motivation I needed.
Hi roseabi .... Hi linda9389 ...1hr 18mins from me...had a high five from a running friend, a quick chit chat with my barge owner ice-cream man friend and an heart stopping moment when I thought a fellow runner had fallen in the canal!!! Thankyou so much for organising and a massive well done to everyone who took part xxx
Well, all you HM runners who think you were slow, put your minds at rest. I am slow. You are sensibly paced. It's my second HM in three weeks and I'll be 65 in May, and it was pretty windy...
21.38km completed in 3h 31m elapsed time (Strava says that equates to 3:28:29 for the actual HM distance).
Two HMs in three weeks is fantastic Kalessin , and huge thanks again for your incredibly kind and generous donation. π€ Total is currently Β£631, way above what I'd ever hoped for. π
Sadly, being rather technically challenged, I couldnβt get the virtual run or comments to work on Rungo. Very much enjoyed some new music though...and the wind, great fun in both directions, being pushed hard one minute and putting up my best fight the next. Anyway despite my awful knees I made 10k, first time since January, 1: 28:19, a slow but happy run πMany thanks to everyone π
Oh crikey, I thought I'd never get my post written - it disappeared the first time when I tried to put a photo on it ππ± Still done now, just in time as I need to make dinner!! As you'll see in my post 2:17:37. Very happy with that even though Strava and Garmin seem to argue over HM results π€·ββοΈHappy days! Well done every single one of you and thank you Linda & Roseabi, it's been brilliant!!!
Thankyou so much .It was so great to have company on my run. 1:00:26 a PB but have to confess I chickened out of the high 5, there were a few too many people about! Hope there is no time penalty for that. Thanks again.
What a horrible day for a run, but still managed to get out there π. First time Iβve taken anything on a run for extra fuel too, big up the jelly babies. I ran a bit further than the planned 10km.
I actually realised when I heard that on the app that I didnβt have any cake at home π±. But I had salted caramel and apple pie instead and it was incredible! π€€
Sorry for the late reply Linda - having many tech issues today - forgot to start my watch after a long segment (twice! augghh) and wound up running further to make the recorded distance, then I originally posted the full 23.5k as a race time, but then later realized you can't use that for the club run, so I've reverted back to the 21.1 recorded time only and have it here:
Was a bit rainy and flooded in one or two sections, but otherwise nice conditions. I've not pushed harder in quite some time and I am feeling it a bit now. Thank you for forcing me to push a bit.
Also thanks very much to you and roseabi for organizing such a fun event!
Hi linda, my 10k time today was 1:16:45 i think π€·ββοΈ was getting notifications from nrc, stopped when anounced i'd done 10k, but strava said 10.5 π€·ββοΈThank you again for organising todays runs! πππ
10.05 km done πͺπ» It was a good decision for me not to race it. 32 degrees Celsius today. Beautiful but too hot for me. Managed it in 1.36 with an average heart rate of 138. 2nd five k I was well over my maf π€ Thanks to linda9389 and roseabi for all their work organising. Thanks to all the amazing runners on here who always inspire me to keep running β€οΈπββοΈ
Yes, Western Australia. Itβs not too bad as itβs a dry heat not as humid as the East Coast. Enjoy your spring weather after the long long winter π
Thank you Linda and Roseabi for organising this, very much appreciated. Ms Roboterta Rungo abandoned me at 1.25k in but your playlist kept me going. I hope to have another attempt at Rungo, it was fun. Was stuck marching up and down behind barrier arms twice waiting to cross the railway lines (trains at the station) and had a moment when a very large dog (on a leash) knocked me sideways into the gutter. I did say several very rude words! His mouth connected with the packet of jelly babies in my jacket pocket fortunately they were unharmed and were consumed π My time for the 10k was 1.21.45
I managed my 10k yesterday in (almost) dry conditions, but what a wind! Anyway, first one since last November- done in 1:20:01. Crossed the line to Papa's got a Brand New Pigbag (by Pigbag) - not the official playlist, although I have nicked/been inspired by quite a lot of them, so have incorporated them into mine. Was helped up a last nasty hill with some antique Drum & Bass: Blind Faith by Chase & Status. Magic! Bib no. 305 - thanks again for organising this & getting me out of the house on a Sunday morning!
Thank you Linda and Roseabi for organising this! Had a really enjoyable and relaxed 10k yesterday... the weather (thankfully) is improving, and it was a really comfortable temperature- legs admittedly are a little jelly like today π€£π€£ anyway, my 10k time was 1hr 17mins 42 seconds - not my fastest, but not my slowest either, so am well pleased. The playlist is awesome ππ
I'm still to do mine, sorry! Niggly ankle from my November injury put a stop to myplans to do it yesterday, but I'll try to get mine in by next Saturday........
1:16:36 for 10k for me.... I started slowly because my knee felt a bit funny the last day or two... And then discovered that the Google map of my new route didn't clarify that there was a big hill in the middle!!!!! But then on the way back when back on flatter ground, I thought I'd just see if I could finish under 1:20...and managed to get a PB! Thanks so much for organising it... Feels nice to do it as a group and read how everyone gets on.
Ice and rest from running, but do keep it moving I think. Gentle walks when that isn't painful, building up to a brisk walk and then eventually to a run again.
It's a gorgeous day here, so rather than catching up on marking at lunchtime I actually went for a walk to check my legs still worked! They do, but I wouldn't have bet on it yesterday evening.
In retrospect, I'm glad that my workload made it impossible for me to run much over the past fortnight. Strava tells me I only ran three times, and the total of those runs was near enough identical to what I ran yesterday! I was clearly much better for having had a rest, so even though I think you're a fair bit younger than me, Lookslikejames , I'd still suggest you take it easy for a little while. π
Yes, to be fair over the last couple of weeks Iβve run more miles than ever before, so to finish that with a half was always going to destroy me! Iβm hoping a couple of days off will do me some good and then I can go back to shorter recovery runs
Yeah, I kind of violated the t&c a bit there. Sorry. I blame the person who made that awesome playlist, I couldn't stop with so many lovely songs still unlistened to.
Ummm, sorry, you put me down on the spreadsheet as 3h3s, rather than 3h3min. I wouldnβt mention it except someone else did 3h17sec so Iβve usurped their place.
No worries. Husband has pointed out that I can make the slower runs sound more impressive than my faster ones. βI ran for over three hoursβ makes me sound fitter than βI ran for two and a half hoursβ. π
Oh, put me on the spot!!! π€£ We did say elapse time at, but I'm not sure how consistent that's been because we don't ask for proof or check anything, we just take what we're given! As our winners will be decided against a randomly generated time on Sunday morning, there is no handicap to you if I record it as elapse time if that's OK with you π.
I hope it was nice and sunny - but it sounds like it was busy?
Thatβs fine Linda. If it was a real race I couldnβt pause the time. Iβll still call it a PB for me though.
It was beautiful and we were glad of the shade of the trees when running past the caravan park. Yes the sunshine brought everyone out today. The main problem was that the groups of walkers and mums with prams have expanded from the previous 1+1. I think we will return inland for the next run.
Thanks Linda. It was a fairly relaxed one but I was happy with it. Working to try and knock off the 5 minutes from my PB to get below 2 hours if at all possible at some point this year. Hopefully if I can get an organised event instead of running solo (all my HMs have been solo to date), the event energy and having other runners might just help me find that extra boost.
I finally did mine this morningπ. Have posted a separate race report, but my 10k finish time was 1:10:15. I am very chuffed, and grateful for the motivationπ₯°
Hi Linda and Roseabi - just done my 10K - Strava time 1 hour 06 minutes 42 seconds. Found it hard going - especially in the windy bits - but I'm pleased to have done it. Thanks so much for organising it all - it's been great reading everyone's times and reports. Motivating stuff! Have a great Easter weekend everyone. πββοΈπββοΈπ₯π
Thank you so much for organising this amazing event. My first ever race albeit a virtual one and my first ever 10 kβ β Stats. - 10.07k in 1.16.59. That makes my 10k time 1.16.29.
I will be posting later on the bridge forum with a report.ππ
10k done in 52:52. How about that for an aesthetically pleasing time?First run with someone else since before Christmas, pushed it to the limit with a group of six and a great time was had by all.
Went out for my first run today after Sunday, minus bunny ears this time, and ran 10.21k in 1:06:28, 208m elevation gain.
That makes my time for the HU Spring 10k (bib 307) 1:05:09, which Strava tells me is my third-fastest 10k time. Seems highly unlikely, but who am I to argue?!
Also delighted to say that my fundraising total currently stands at Β£668 plus Β£110 Gift Aid, with more to come from people who'll be paying by cheque. I'm utterly stunned by people's generosity.
We're back into lockdown as of tomorrow evening, but at least this time I'm allowed to exercise within 10k radius of home, without a time limit or paperwork, as long as it's between 6.00am and 7.00pm. So I can still do longer runs, yay!
The ankle felt so much better after repeating C25K W1R1 on Sunday.
I even ran just over 3km every morning from Tuesday this week and felt amazing all day for having done so.
Today I went out in the chill and came back in a sweat, just plodding along, thinking I was going slowly, finishing a 10km with a PR of 1:07:32 (my previous was 1:08:51).
Not sure if this actually counts though? A hip niggle turned into discomfort then pain so I resorted to walking 6k in. It was so annoying as everything else felt awesome and I was going great guns and really enjoying myself.
Thanks so much for organizing this. A lot of hard work went into it. I loved the race commentary - it really kept me going this afternoon.
Oh it counts! Definitely! All the more so for battling on. Well done. Sorry to hear about your hip though. Take care of it and hopefully it will heal quickly π€
HUHM run this morning in a time of 1:56:31 which Iβm pretty pleased with. I had a running buddy to keep me company which was great, particularly as it was tough going in places with the unrelenting Edinburgh hills and warm spring sunshine.
They were laminated sheets on signposts that we had to scan as checkpoints around the preset 10k course. It was originally going to be a Christmas pudding hunt but had to be postponed until now...
