OMG! 10 miles - BOOM!!!

New Year and resolutions led me to promising that I would run a 'virtual' (as I live in Spain) HM, whilst my friend who lives in NI would run the Belfast Half in person - scheduled for 2nd May. (Although I believe that this is now a virtual race too).

I looked through the plans, and I have to admit, I do enjoy the NRC app with their guided runs, and the infamous Coach Bennett and his advice. So - working backwards from 2nd May, this meant that the programme began on Monday 25th January. By this stage I had run 10km 3 times, and as I do have a lot of free time, am able to run 5 times a week, which matches the NRC HM plan, with a different guided run. Monday is the 15 mins that goes through the plans and effort for the remaining runs for the week, with speed/intervals on Wednesdays and Fridays, a 'recovery' run on Thursdays, with the Long Run on Sunday. (I've just joined a pilates class on the 'rest' days Tuesday & Saturday).

Well today... as part of the 7 Weeks To Go plan, I ran the NRC Ten Mile Run or 16.1km guided run. OMG! I can hardly believe it, and want to shout it from the rooftops!!!! It was a little unseasonably chilly here this morning setting out (6 feels like 2) - but I took it easy, very easy!! I am in no way going to be breaking any records out there, however, I know that I am getting gradually faster overall, and I am really happy with my average of 7:32m/km.

To be honest though, I am not sure that I could have done this without the AMAZING playlist that Roseabi and Linda have compiled for the virtual 10k and HM next weekend. Those tunes do ROCK and helped the miles just carry on being ticked off.

I also want to say, thank you to everyone on this forum, and the bridge to 10k. I tend to stay in the background and read, and all of the advice, ideas, and support that you guys give is just phenomenal. THANK YOU!!!

10 miles done - just add another 5k now and its a HM!! Never, ever thought that I would ever say "I'm training for a HM" in my entire life. It is amazing what the mind and body can do.

Well done! 👍🏃‍♀️

I'm just preparing to do a similar distance this morning. I'm currently faffing about having just prepared this evening's meal (a beef casserole).

Did you take any nibbles or drink with you?

I had a banana and some dates before I went out, and took water with me... I’ve not worked out how to run a d drink yet 😀. Dinner sounds yum!! It’s a roast loin of pork for me later

If you’re new to this distance, definitely fuel around 10k I’d say. A few sweets would do 👍🏽

I have 8 jelly babies ready. I had only four when I did 15 km last Sunday.

That's a great idea - I love jelly babies, may need more than 8 though 😅😅

I ate six while running, and two whilst walking home. Yes, I did the ten miles. Write up to come later. Late lunch first!

Thanks Tasha99 for the advice, hadn't thought about taking anything with me apart from the water, although some of the bars were open as I ran past them - I could have stopped for a morning tostada con tomate 😀😀. I shall get some sweets in in preparation for the next long run 👍👍👍

I know JoJo - it is incredible, even more when you consider that that first minute of running in the C25K plan seemed like an eternity!
