First ever 10 miles

β€’30 Replies

Hi all managed my first 10 miles today preparing for the Brighton HM πŸ˜€feeling a bit sore but good, with stretching and foam rolling lending a hand. Also tested jelly babies for fuel and that seems to work better than gels. Is anyone else planning the Brighton HM, and do I get a badge for 10 miles? If so can I please have one 😁

Happy running all

Well done! Those last couple of km are hard the first time, aren't they?

I also am the cause of a jelly baby massacre during longer runs. πŸ˜†

in reply to nowster

The last few km's were tough, the plan says 11 miles next week 😬 onwards and upwards and with jelly babies now on board let's hope I get there...

I got up to 18km back in April, was trying for the HM (with an option to bail out at 20km), and had "one of those runs" which a couple of weeks later culminated in a physio visit.

Best of luck! 🀞

Oh no, I hope you are recovering well, 18k is a great achievement, I hope you get back to it soon, all the best πŸ™‚

Yes, getting back to it. See my posts in the Bridge to 10K forum here for the full story. Beware: most of my posts are long.

And I knocked 22 seconds off my PR for 5km today.

Whoop whoop! Well done and congratulations, it’s a great distance and you’re in brilliant shape to complete the HM.

I know loads of runners love jelly babies but I can’t stand them.. I think it’s the texture more than anything. But whatever works for you ….and these clearly did πŸ’ͺ

in reply to Irishprincess

Thanks Irishprincess oddly enough it's the texture of jelly babies that I like, gels made me feel very full very quickly πŸ₯΄

It’s all an experiment isn’t it? I’ve never tried gels and don't intend to but I’m going to try Soreen on my next long run…

in reply to Irishprincess

Oh I like soreen, I'm toying with dried Apricots but the trick will be keeping them from becoming a sticky mess but as you says it's an experiment!!

I think the Soreen might be a bit hard to eat on a run but maybe if it was buttered first…… it’s all so exciting this running business πŸ™‚

I'm a dried apricot fan - had 2 for my 10k and didn't feel myself flagging (other than, well, having run 10k :) )

Also, I tried once with those apple compote for children's lunch boxes, which wasn't bad, it doesn't have to be full when you start and you can take little bits.

in reply to backintime

Hi backintime, thanks for the info, I spotted those apple compote pouches and was thinking of giving them a go, I'll definitely try the dried Apricots. All the best...

Well done Tracy, I achieved it two weeks ago, great feeling isn’t it? And I also took 5 jelly babies 🀣 Good luck with the HM , That was my aim but age isn’t on my side so opted for the 10miles. Maybe one day. 😱 I’m sure you will do well in Brighton and will look forward to your winning post. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Well done!! Make sure you do strengthening exercises. I didn't and I'm on the couch...

in reply to Lizcanrun

Hi Liz I'm sorry to hear you are injured and hope you recover soon, I force myself to do pilates at least once per week and really enjoy it when I do it but it's hard to motivate myself, get well soon
