HM training come back!

Hi all! I feel like I've been so absent here, but finally my running is getting back on track :) In the end of January I really lost my motivation, and running began to stress me out a lot, as I physically was not able in the moment to meet what I thought I should be able to. SO for two weeks I ran really rather little, with no long runs at long (longest of 6.5k!).

Luckily my mind and my body are doing much better since February 1st, and I am beginning my HM plan again! I managed the 16k long run last week with my partner, and whilst it was tricky (as well as windy and super cold!) I completed it! As my long run has been 16k for couple of weeks (also before my 2 week 'break'), I think I'll aim for 18k this week for my long run.

Today I began the week with an easy 12k - except it wasn't so easy with the ice and snow! Here temperatures are ridiculously low: a high of -4 today! Yikes. I wrapped up, and aside form my hands I wasn't too cold. Naturally though my pace was slower than usual, but my legs found it harder as running in snow just makes things so hard on the legs! Unfortunately its supposed to only get colder for the rest of the week...

Overall I'm happy to be back in my weekly rhythm of running!

That's sounding like a positive moving forward post. Cold weather and snowy surfaces should have a multiplier factor added automatically, so much more effort than warm sunny runs. Take care in the snow and happy running 🤗

Yes for sure! I'd never actually run in snow / very cold temperatures, so it was a first. But definitely lots harder. Thank you!

Well done, 12k is a long way to go in snow. I’ve only had my short runs in snow, and that’s awkward enough! I hope conditions are good for your 18k.

Yes I definitely took it slow. I think the only reason it was so long because I was too busy looking at how pretty everything was!

I hope so too; but I must say if its still this cold I think I'll postpone it a bit!

Well done for finding your mojo again - not an easy task in this weather. Unless you have an event deadline can you cut yourself some slack? I sometimes add a mixed week into my plan with runs that suit the weather/other life events, rather than turn my plan into a battle! Having said that, it sounds like you're mentally and physically prepared to smash this long run. Go you!!!

Aww thank you! Ahhh that sounds like a good way to go about it. For me I have no deadline per say, I just like running (when I actually go!), so I try and stick to a plan.

But thanks! I do think I'll go for it, but only if the weather warms up a bit :)

Well done on your comeback. Yeah this time of year is challenging to get out there. And as you’ve already touched on, some energy is lost on slippery surfaces like snow and ice, so your pace will likely drop a little and effort will feel harder, but knowing this you can manage your expectations and just enjoy the beauty of it. Best of luck pushing through your 18!

Thanks! Yes I'm definitely waiting on Spring :) and in the short term, for the snow to melt at least!

Thank you! I'm planning on taking it slow and enjoying the scenery
