HM training Week 2 - sore back!

Week 2 (28th) started with a whoops, shouldn’t have done that moment 😬! It was raining quite hard Monday morning (long run day) so thought I would do a few strength exercises first. Good idea you may think but I wish I had just stayed in bed for a bit longer. After a few random planks and using the weights I suddenly realised that I had strained a muscle in my lower back!!! I was still determined to run but it was very slow and rather painful 😖

Work was a bit stressful with tired children and reduced staff (again!) and it was hot, so Thursday’s after school run didn’t happen. Instead I had an early short run before work - only time for 3k.

Saturday - very, very slow (not) Park Run on Saturday. Back still hurting and humid 🥵

So not a great week BUT I managed my 3 runs so pleased with that. 👍😊

Ouch! It’s so easily done and I’ve done it myself in the garden pruning a rose of all things 🙄 But you got your runs ticked off regardless👍

Planks can put pressure on the lower back if the back is rounded or the core isn’t engaged. I’m not saying this is what happened with you Sue but it’s so easily done. Good old-fashioned bicycle crunches are really effective as the back is on the floor. I have a tendency to lower back problems and find the crunches give brilliant results but with no stress on my back.

Hopefully a few days rest and gentle stretching will sort your back out 🤞

Hi IP - I was very silly. I haven't had problems with planks before I think I just was overdoing it! Lesson learnt 🙄 Thanks for the advice about crunches - I will look into those.

It is much better thank you, just a bit tight in the mornings. Going to do a stretch session before work tomorrow - but gently 😂

Thanks Maddee, it is much better, a bit sore on this morning’s run but no problem the rest of the day.

Aww hi Mr Squiggy! 🐕❤️

Ouch, your poor back SS. 😩 If ever I tweaked mine in my horsey days, the action of riding was great with the gentle movement. Not that practical for most, saddling up a 🐎 though! 😅 Hope yours eases up and you can continue running pain free soon. 🤞

Thank you Cheeky, it is feeling much better. 20 min stretching this morning to ease it. Not sure about riding, my Welsh cob would shy at the smallest thing so not very good for a sore back! 😂🐎

Ahh yes, shying wouldn’t be good, especially when they do that funny startled jump and land flat on all 4 feet like mine used to! 😂

That was always a killer wasn’t it cheeky! My horse used to do it as well - played havoc with my back and fillings!

Not to mention being a heart stopper - the noise of 4 shoes slamming down out of the blue on quiet country lanes Oldgirlruns ! 😱🤣
