Anyhow, I've signed up for the Yorkshire Marathon on Sun 17th October (2021).
After last month's 20 miler, I think I might be able do it now at a push but it's good to have another 9 months to get in proper shape for it.
With the Bath HM booked for September, it looks like I might run my first HM before my first Marathon! However, I've been in this situation before and the wheels fell off big time so I'm not going to count it until I've passed the finishing lines.

Good luck SkiMonday for your Yorkshire Marathon on 17th October this year, there is a very good chance that it will take place, not virtual as so many running events have been recently, same with parkruns, there is a very good chance of them resuming in September or October.
Yes, I think that events planned for the Autumn are very likely to be going ahead.
It's my personal preparedness that I think is the major risk. I had my first marathon booked for Nov 2019 but a pump malfunction stopped me from doing that. Still, all issues are under control so, with steady training, it should go OK. I'm nice and calm about it right now, still, provided my preparation goes OK, I think I'll maintain that state.
I find it interesting that, with a FM booked, the HM feels like a bit of a stepping stone. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not taking eitherof them lightly and I'm still going to work on my 2 hour target (for the HM!)
I keep telling myself that I need to quit doing "effort" runs and focus soley on comfortable / easy runs to build my stamina. If I repeat that enough times, I might remember it!
Great! If I don’t get in the London ballot, I’ll be doing this one again too so I’ll see you there! (See my badge 😍) Today is 2 years since I signed up for it 🤣
Ah yes! Zooming in to your badge, I see what you mean. Starting to wonder if anyone else on here is doing this one. Might be worth a post nearer the time.
We're in Bristol. Planning on getting the train up and spending a few days there. I was a student in York but that was a few years ago now (where "few" is a big number).
It’s quite a way for you! Best make the most of it and have a few days up here! Love York.
If you’re into ultras, as I saw on another post, you should take a look at the Hardmoors page. Absolutely amazing races in various locations across the NY moors. Ridiculously hard to get in to - you need to have your finger on the button when they go live. The 10ks are about 8 miles, the HM are about 14–16 miles and the fulls are more like 30-32. But they do a 55, a 60, a 110, 160 and 200! Up here, they’re THE runs to do. I love them and marshal too. I’m thinking of booking this year for one of their Full marathons in 2022 which will be my first ultra race.
Yeah, I enjoyed my time in York. Although the only "events" that I took part in back then were much more focused on the refreshment stops!
Those runs on the Moors sound like a serious challenge! My Ultra in August (if it goes ahead) will be my first. If I ignore the virtual events, it will be my first running event of any distance. Plan is to see how I get on then take it from there.
In informing you of the Hardmoors races, i have beef drawn back to researching which full I want to do and I seem to have committed my friend and myself to doing the New Year Day 30 🙄🤣
Oh yes. I’m not that bad. Although I am known as ‘the persuader’ in club. I’m just wondering if it’s too soon after Yorkshire though although I guess it’s not so stressful doing trail 🥴🤔
I'm planning on running the Bath HM two weeks after my first Ulta . Hopefully, if I've put in enough training, it should be OK.
The closest I've come to that recently is a 24 mile walk that I did with a couple of mates. I felt fine after that. There again that was back when I was doing two 10k walks a day.
Wow! Well done - if you've already nailed the big 20 miler, I am sure you will be well prepared for the full Marathon in October. Fingers crossed it all goes as planned between now and then! 🙂
