Time to get serious Just signed up for the Toronto Half Marathon on May 6th (also my wedding anniversary - but my wife is good with it - yes I checked first :)) - Wanted to try the Chili Half in March, but A: I just missed the price increase deadline and B: they have no race-day kit pickups, so it would mean an extra trip to Burlington (an hour each way) to pickup the kit - whereas the Toronto race starts literally 5min from my home and is a beeline down Yonge street through downtown Toronto to Lake Ontario. Something to look forward to!
OK, I finally committed: Time to get... - Fun Beyond 10K & ...
OK, I finally committed
Whoohoo! Way to go Decker! I'm glad you checked with the Mrs first - you're a wise man 😇. A May marathon will be nicer than a March one anyways, weather wise, and the location couldn't be better! You'll know exactly what the course entails. Definitely something to look forward to 👍
Sounds great! Exciting 😆🏃🏃🏃🏃✔
Well done, Decker !
Now, how interesting... I am actually in Ottawa on 4th & 5th May... hmmm...
oh dear...
Oh we’re just a 4hr drive away from Ottawa! 😉 But how cool would it be though?!
I know! I was planning to come down anyway to hang off the CN Tower with a friend so if it all works out...
oo-er
Oh that is seriously brave Annie. 😲 If you do make it down here, let me know and we can connect!
Hey, Decker - do you need medical certificates to enter races in Canada? I can't see anything on the website, but I know you need one in France, for example.
I haven’t needed any so far for the 5 or 10ks. I don’t think you do. But I will ask around to some more seasoned running friends.
Also having applied to the half marathon, I was not asked for any medical certificates.
Okay, phew, thanks! Well done for applying
I'm waiting to hear if my conference paper has been accepted. I'm probably going anyway, but if it hasn't I'll be able to get away earlier
"Downhill and scenic" - perfect!! Enjoy your training
That's going to be exciting! Congratulations!
Sounds great. I've not been there in a long while but have very fond memories of that area. Great gigs by the lake!
My 25k training slowed down as l pulled a lower back muscle when jumping out of shower like I did in 1974.
Thanks man. Yes I also have many great memories down by the lake, from the CNE to the many concerts and shows we’ve seen over the years down there.
Sorry about the back. Yep, we sometimes have the brains of 17 year olds in the bods of 50 year olds. Went sledding with the kids last week and almost did the same thing as you.
sounds like a good run to me, and a chance for a speedy run!
Ooh how exciting! What a great plan. I will be following your training progress with great interest
Great idea to do a very local race as it is much less stressful 😁👍. Good luck with the training 😃
