Well done to you Katnap on completing that Metric Marathon, you are still allowed to exercise outside during full lockdown, including running.

Of course! Some people are a bit 'funny' about longer runs between villages.

But would you run if you had Covid 19?

Recently I had to think carefully of my routes because we live on a two counties border and each had a different Tier! At least it’s easier now πŸ™‚

That can be annoying when 'arbitrary' boundaries are close by! Happy running!

Amazing run Katnap; it would have been really annoying if lockdown had got in the way! So glad you made it !!πŸ™‚πŸ₯‚

The main challenge now is the once / day outside exercise limit as I like to have a long walk later in the day.

Well done Katnap ! I've been pondering the idea of a Metric Marathon myself. Once the snow's gone, and provided we don't get locked down over here again...

Katnap profile image
KatnapMarathon in reply to Cmoi

It'll be what it'll be. Just grab the moment when it comes Cmoi

Cmoi profile image
CmoiMarathon in reply to Katnap

Thanks Katnap . I did my first 10k, 10 miles and HM distances on the basis of grabbing the moment, not least because the idea of proper training still scares me!

Katnap profile image
KatnapMarathon in reply to Cmoi

🀣 me too! A proper seasoned runner told me that you need to plan and prepare for longer distances. Nutrition and hydration become more important towards success. Good luck with your future metric marathon (and beyond)!

Nice one Katnap, well done!

Noticed you discussing running without a plan with Cmoi: that's roughly how I've been going as well (5k three times a week plus one long run). Although, thinking about it, that's not much different to JuJu's magic plan.

Going much further could be interesting because I think that three hours is recommended as a maximum for training runs.

In warmer conditions I would tag on a long warm down walk of 15 minutes or more. Long hikes (4 hours+) gets your head straight for being on your feet for a long time and adds stamina and endurance. You might find an additional run in the week doing a speedy mile will improve your pace and VO2 max.

Good luck with your training!

Thanks Katnap

I'm thinking of adding some progressively longer walks into my schedule as a way of preparing for longer events.

I'm not sure about speed training. My long distance pace is improving with my current routine. It's actually better now than I achieved with the previous speed, hill and long run routine. I'll probably stick with the current routine for a while, at least until the risk of ice has gone away. If progress starts leveling off, that might be the times to add in some faster running (although I enjoy a turn of speed now and again). However, I've already started adding additional climbs into my long run.
