After everything that's happened lately, my first HM was going to be really tough starting absolutely soaked, cold & in a waterlogged field, but at least I thought I would finish! Clearly not yet though as somebody had other plans!
So gutted for both the runners and organisers, but at least no one was injured which was our first fear!
As they still gave out the goodybags and medals I've decided to run my first HM locally and in the t-shirt & only then open the bling, it won't be the same as taking part in the event but I feel it shows my solidarity for the organisers who will be gutted at having to cancel their event, I believe for the first time since it began in 1982.

Such a shame, I saw the news reports, we did that event last year in very similar wet conditions.....I have a friend who was planning to do it........however, best to be safe, and a great idea to do a run anyway - I hope others do the same, especially because of all the work for the charities.........and not least all the work by the organisers, volunteers and sponsors.
Ahh, how disappointing for you - and everyone else too. But what a fab way you've come up with to overcome it. Wishing you luck and look forward to a full race report 😀
Oh woe! 😨 Couldn’t bring myself to “like” this post. 🤔 What a huge disappointment all round, especially with a big well-known event. I’ll be cheering you on when you do your individual version: be sure to publicise it on here! 👏🏼
So disappointing for you, but I’m sure they wouldn’t have cancelled it if they didn’t think it was absolutely necessary. Won’t be the same atmosphere running it on your own, but good for you. Let us know when and you can imagine all your VRBs cheering you on. You probably saw that the Leicester HM was cancelled last week due to the weather and loads of people went on to run their own personal HMs.
Oh what a shame Uncle. They obviously had their reasons, and at least you were still able to run yourself. Not the same, but hey, there will be plenty more events for you to enter. 🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️😀
That’s such a shame - I felt gutted for you all when I heard - but glad that everyone was so understanding.
Brilliant that you still plan to ‘earn’ your bling 👍🏻😉🏅 Are you on any running groups on social media? Eg Fordy Runs on Facebook? There must be other people planning what you’re planning and maybe you could arrange a meet up with a few and run together?? Just a suggestion.
I've since seen lots of posts of similar great runners doing the same, many for charities!! There was a huge sense of comrade, fellow runners were great with each other
I am sorry to hear his, but relieved that they were able to keep everyone safe. We will be looking forward to you doing your local half and hearing all about it!
