I didn't have a great experience at my first large 'push myself' race - GSR - but decided I should try another big race, this time a HM, to see how it felt - a second chance if you like!
Yet before I've even tried it, I find myself signed up for two more HMs - Coast (almost full already so couldn't wait) and Oxford (ballot place which had to be paid for before Monday so couldn't wait).
I think I've gone mad! Just hope I enjoy the HM on 24th π€ I blame all of you of course, so many of you have set a bad example πππ

Wow...go you..so, when did you run your first HM distance..has that given you more confidence for the 24th???..I only ask because I am going to run the full distance on the actual day...as a treat..ha ha!
A few weeks ago, on Abi's plan, never in a race π³. I've run the distance twice in training (three times if you count my first miserable run/walk/crawl attempt - which I don't π). 24th March will be my first real one π€
Thanks.. I am hoping it may rain for this last long run... i did a lot of the other training runs in rain and feel sure it will be wet on the 24th... we had snow in Derbyshire last Sunday! If it is sunny that will be a bonus!!!
I've already started a weather watch for London! At the moment the forecast is just about perfect - xool, overcast, very light winds and dry. Fingers crossed it stays that way and that Derbyshire gets an break too π
On my first one, I was advised not to run the full distance until the day to make it special, so I went up to 18k-20k max, and thatβs been my plan since. Iβd highly recommend saving a bit for the day.
Some people say you donβt have to do that much, e,g 10 miles max, but, I , like many others here, have to feel confident I can do the whole thing, hence 20k being my training βmilestoneβ. π
Thanks Madge... that is really helpful.. you have always been an inspiration to me, as have many on here, and I value your advice. I need to know I am capable, but do want that special buzz!
It is a special buzz Floss. I did the full distance a couple of weeks ago in training (didn't really plan to - just kept going!) and when I got to the end I was so chuffed. I announced that I had just "run my first half marathon" to two random ladies how happened to be walking past ππ€£
I felt I needed the distance under my belt for confidence, but then I'm a well known worrywart! It could be part of why GSR was a bit of a let down for me as I'd already done the distance in training. Hopefully my expectations are better this time round.
Thatβll be why I booked in for two more then......ππ€ͺπββοΈπͺ.......wasnβt me, it was them.....π........ππ......then there might be another....just to round the year off.......makes an even number then.....π€ͺ......balanced bling collection....π π
Well done. In some ways it takes the pressure off of your first one, now you know its not going to be your only experience. You will learn each time and no doubt there will be more HMs to come.
Life mapped out right there π i quite like the summer break too - some free running, knowing that there is structure ahead so there's no feeling of losing direction, rather a deliberate chance to enjoy something different for a while.
