Just to say that I'm feeling proud (and tired) as today I completed my first 10K since I tore my calf in July. I had been training as part of the HU Autumn Half Marathon group but got stopped in my tracks at 14K by my injury. I spent many days feeling frustrated and upset and doing Caroline Jordan's chair cardio (Thanks Linda) trying to keep my fitness up. It's so difficult to get your heartrate up sitting down even when you are doing crazy things with you arms to the point where you can't hold them up a moment longer! Anyway I got back to a bit of running with a C25K revisit in mid September and had a few twinges/worries/wobbles but no proper setbacks so skipped a few runs here and there. After that I revisited Juju's magic 10 again I skipped a couple of weeks but otherwise stuck to it and today I graduated for the 2nd time! It was absolutely chucking it down this morning but I went anyway as I had already planned to and had my kit all laid out. Of course it's sunny here now π€¦ββοΈ
But I've done it and finally feel like I'm properly back to running. I didn't think about my calf today which was great. I think I was more concerned about the icy rain lashing in my face, my wet feet and worrying if my phone was keeping dry!
I had a little dance round the kitchen when I'd got clean and dry π The ups and downs of running eh? It's a funny old game but I think I'm a bit addicted.
Happy running all and if you are on the IC, take comfort in the thought that you will get back out there and will love it all the more when you do πββοΈβ€

πββοΈπββοΈWell done Celeraic! A wonderful achievement and a little celebration dance around the kitchen, I hope you had a few jelly babies too π. Getting off the IC takes courage and determination and you did it!!πββοΈπββοΈ
Thanks Kiwipie π Actually, I didn't have any jelly babies so I had a couple of those dextrose tablets. Didn't really like them, a bit chalky! Are you still recuperating?
Iβve just started running again, mixing up run/walks and slow jogs, so far everything is holding together. Determined not to go too far or too fast as I really donβt want to mess it up. Very grateful to be running again and like you I think Iβm a bit addicted! π
That's great. Glad you are getting back to it without any issues. I was very careful too, in fact it was a bit of an anti climax getting back to it as I was too worried to enjoy it. Now that I can relax a bit, it feels better π Hope you continue to make progress. It's strange how addictive it is considering it sometimes feels like such hard work! π€
I adore this bit...'I had a little dance round the kitchen when I'd got clean and dry.'

A tremendous achievement proving always that the comeback is bigger than the setback π
Wonderful!!! Such a great feeling to be back, but the best bit of all is when you realise that not only did you complete the distance but you didn't give a second thought to the old injury - that's real progress. The other thing in your favour is knowing that the injury was caused by an 'incident' rather than just by overuse or wear and tear. On that basis, it should be plain sailing to 14k again ... and beyond π
Thanks Linda, yes I'm hoping that I can get beyond 14K this time. I think if (No, when?) I get to 10 miles which I had my sights set on last time, it will be extra special having 'failed' the first time. Thank you again Linda for your support through this and encouraging me not to disappear after my injury. It really helped
Thank you. It was the first time I'd gone out in heavy rain that didn't let up. It was a bit more of a challenge than I thought it would be. Still, it is nice in a way that all runs are different in one way or another π
