Sunday run on the trails ....and falling over!πŸ˜³πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ

So, I'm working my way back to HM distance and after longer runs the last two weekends, my plan was for a 10K today. πŸ™‚

Lovely sunny morning with a gentle breeze, which took the edge of the warmth (I much prefer my cooler runs!)

After a couple of k on the local pavements I headed off on to the downslink and the many meandering paths that lead off it. Lots of people out and about today, enjoying the lovely early autumn weather. Sunny farm roads and shady woodland made it easy to run relatively(!) comfortably and the kilometers steadily buzzed by on my Garmin. All was well in my world at about 9.4K, when I tripped on nothing more than a small stone or bump in the path! Several giant strides where I tried to regain my balance to no avail, before crash landing! Ouch! Wounded pride hurts!πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚

In true "runner in denial" mode, I got up, briefly assessed that I hadn't broken anything despite taking the skin off the heel of my hand (sorted that with a tissue from my pocket) and off I trotted! It was pure stubbornness that made me carry on despite feeling a bit battered - I was so close to 10k anyway!

Back home and a few more bruises and grazes revealed themselves but nothing serious (apart from a hole in my running tights!😱), so I was pretty lucky!

Think I may need a mantra to use in the last couple of k of a run, as this has happened before...maybe..."Nearly there - pick your feet up!" would work? πŸ˜‚

Hope everyone else has had safer and more uneventful runs today! πŸ‘

Well done for finishing Sandraj39, it would have been a terrible shame to stop at 9.6 though!πŸ™‚ It doesn’t seem that you were badly injured, which is great news😊 Hopefully you’ll be out there again soon😊🀞

Sorry about your fall on your 10K run this morning, you say that you have had a slight fall on previous runs, perhaps a little tiredness is causing you not to pick your feet up on the final kilometers, have a few days off running and from now on remember to pick your feet up during the last part of the run

Thanks AlMorr - I have a very slightly weaker left leg due to a nerve injury a few years ago....the only time I am ever aware of it, is at the end of a run.

Hi Sandra, well done for finishing. I’m a bit like that and often trip on things, then tell myself to pick my feet up more. Hopefully it won’t happen again for you.

Definately going to be super aware next time....

Oh gosh, it happens so easily doesn't it? Glad there are no serious injuries to spoil an otherwise perfect run. New tights??? Well, every cloud has to have a silver lining ... 😊

But.... did you stop the Garmin Sandra......? πŸ™€ Thankfully no serious damage done. I have a habit of not lifting one foot up enough and am always reminding myself to do it. Funnily enough that’s the side of my knee niggles πŸ€”

It's my weaker side too IP! Sometimes it catches me out. No - I didn't even stop my Garmin - that's how quickly I pushed on!!πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚

Oh, good for you!. That’s interesting about the niggle side. Maybe there’s a connection for us ... πŸ€”

Arrggghhh! But at least you were able carry on to your 10k and now have a valid excuse to buy some more running tights Sandraj39 ! So glad you weren’t seriously hurt (but did anyone see it happen? 😱)

There were people coming in the opposite direction, a long way ahead. They could have seen it...but being slightly embarrassed I didn't really seek any eye contact as I passed them! 😳 Oh, the shame!!πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Really good prep again. These types of incidents do help on race day though as you know you can keep going and overcome. I always think towards the end of runs, 'keep my form keep my run'

I do remind myself to keep my form - I think it's so easily done sometimes and if I ever catch my foot it's always my left one ( where I had nerve damage and footdrop following sciatica a few years back). There must be some residual weakness that shows itself after a longer run - although I felt fine up until this point!

Glad all that was hurt was your pride Sandra. There’s no shame in it. I’ve fallen so many times on trails and ice that I’ve lost count. Yes especially at the end of a long run you sometimes have to remind yourself to pick your feet up when you are really tiredπŸ™‚
