This is becoming a habit!
It wasn't much of a race I'm afraid, more of a slog. My legs and particularly my ankles are pretty decrepit at the moment, really looking forward to the agony of being pummeled next week - well overdue and it feels it.
However hard it was though, this run was a special one and I had to do it, so no chickening out. A dear friend passed away last week and I'm dedicating all my runs to him this week as he was a very speedy runner in his youth. Complications caused by cancer treatment took him and I'm unlikely to be able to go to the funeral because of COVID restrictions, so this is my way of saying goodbye.
Couldn't get up early this morning to do it, body just wouldn't shift so I promised myself I'd do it in the afternoon. I've not run in the afternoon for months as it's been too hot and we've managed to get up early enough to do them. Trouble with the morning runs is that I have been having to do Joe Wicks with the kids straight after, trying to squeeze a shower in then sit down and work for hours. Certainly burns the calories but not sure it's been the best for my muscles. Today it was much better as I had hours between Joe Wicks and running.
We chose my 2 lap local route in case I had to bale out. The first couple of km were fine and there was a bit of a breeze and a bit of drizzle to keep us cool-ish but then that stopped and the humidity increased and the muscles started to complain. By the time we started the second lap I was dripping with sweat - not a good look but it does help encourage social distancing 😂
My friend's posthumous encouragement pushed me on as Katnap and I ran out of things to discuss to distract ourselves. We took a slightly different route as it was rush hour and the busiest I've seen our roads in a long, long time. I was really counting down the metres by this point but everything was holding on and we finally got to 10k just before we reached our estate. It was slower than I'd have liked but faster than I expected: 1:07:55 Thank you dear friend for pushing me on ❤
Good luck and happy running to all of you doing your virtual 10k's this week.
