I managed to complete a 16 mile run/walk yesterday - just!! Started out at 6AM at 25C and 4 hours later it was 30C+. By noon, after I had driven home it was 34C. Considering it is supposed to be now Autumn, Summer is not letting go. On each of my 14-16 mile longruns over the past 6 weeks or so I have been really struggling over the last mile - but they have all been under the same conditions. It could be the heat by the time I am getting close to the finish, or my mental state or my lack of endurance?? Anyway, this morning I do take heart and encouragement from the fact that I "feel" completely recovered in less than 18 hours.
Who else here is in the middle of marathon training? What distance are you at and how are you tracking??

Well done Bazza, I really cannot imagine long runs like that in the heat ☀️- it must make a tough run so much tougher!! Glad you have recovered well.😀👍
Really well done Bazza in that heat. Always found it harder going in the heat. I am sort of training towards mara distances, currently at 30k now. Its been cold and cool here. Just getting into plus temps now, so we’ll see what happens over the next few months as it heats up more.
How is your nutrition and hydration going during your longruns?? I am trying to pay attention to mine - but the heat is such that I can't really tell if it is working for me. I am "spent" by the end of each longrun - but I can't really determine why ( apart from the obvious heat)
I’ve been doing 20k weekly runs since Jan to prep for my race next week and on those I bring snacks like trail mix, or cliff builder bars. I only eat late in the run or at the end usually. I also bring an endurance tap maple gel for anything over 20k. Last few runs have been 25+ and I’ve been bringing nuun drinks for those which is a tablet/water mix, similar to tailwind. I find the drinks more helpful in the heat.
Something like a tailwind or nuun drink made a big difference in the heat for me. But I am not in marathon ranges yet like you. Abi or Miss Wobble may have better advice than me.
I am training for a marathon in 5 weeks. I have run up to 20 miles last weekend. A step back yesterday to 14 miles and hopefully another 20 miles this weekend before tapering.
