Hello all , lovely weather today in Scotland. Just something I wanted to share. Since I ran my first HM 10 days ago I've really noticed my running has got so much better. What I mean is there are a lot of long inclines and hilly bits where I live on all my runs and I would usually need a few walk breaks but now I seem to be able to keep going. Is this what happens when you run shorter distances after running a really long one. Just asking as I'm coping with running and the heat so much better now.

Happy running allπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸŒž

Happy running to you Buddy34, I would suppose after running a half marathon a run like 10K would seem like a run around the block, certainly you can now run up hills whereas before you would take a short walking break.

By the way have you not received your HM medal? If not I hope it won't be long before you get it.

I’m sure it’s helped me too Buddy. In fact I love including hills in my runs for that reason, and the difference in my fitness level between this year and last year is enormous.

Go us! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

What I have noticed is I'm coping with the heat better this year 🌞

Yes I agree. I ran this morning - only a jog out with the dog - and ordinarily I’d have been overly hot. Now you mention it, I felt fine. πŸ˜€

That's great! I definitely found my shorter runs easier after a HM. When I tried, I found I could run them faster too. I avoided climbs for a long time, but have found them far less tiring than I expected - maybe that's down to all the HM effort too. Bonus!

Gosh, I'm certainly no expert but those long and slower runs are ideal as a base to support other runs. I've read a lot about this and the benefits longer distances have on us overall, supporting our breathing and stamina more, so this maybe a reason. Really pleased you are aware of your progression now. I also think it's mindset and knowing you are capable and strong enough to go far now. Ace feeling though 😊

That's what I thought GTFC. The running just feels so much better now and I've stopped trying to chase a pb . Going out completing a run is so much more enjoyable πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

Definitely! I go steady all the time now and it seems to suit me. I actually prefer runs 4m+ now and I just go steady at my comfy pace. I do think 'Ooh I'll try for a 5k PB' but it seems quite short πŸ™ˆ so I just carry on at the moment and I'm really happy. I think reading that slow running article from Men's Health someone posted really resonated with me. As you say, completing a run this way is a great feeling.

Definitely. I ran my first half at the end of September and then smashed my Parkrun time 10 days later. Haven’t been close to it since though!
