Re event cancellation - I read somewhere yesterday that a running event (10k or HM I think) somewhere in England has already been cancelled for this Sunday, 9th Feb. Can't remember where now, but it did make me think, how often are these events closed due to bad weather? The forecast is awful especially for Sunday!
Cancelled events??: Re event... - Fun Beyond 10K & ...
Cancelled events??
For winter events this is quite common, unfortunately xx
Thanks. Do they tend to do it in advance, or could it even be on the day - anyone got any experience? The event I read about yesterday has already been postponed - can't remember where it was though!
Llanelli Half has been cancelled, but I thought I also read about another one as it struck me as being somewhere in England and I definitely know Llanelli is Wales!
They will always try to cancel at least the day before. Obviously there can be occasions where something happens without warning, for example a very bad traffic accident. But by far the most common cause of cancellation is the weather, so event organisers will use the forecast to make their decisions.
I had an event postponed due to snow a couple of years ago. The decision to cancel was made the day before (I think - might have been the day before that), but I and many others had already decided not to travel anyway. The race (Milton Keynes Winter Half) should have been in December and ended up happening in February the following year 😊 Some large events in busy city centres will not be able to reschedule though, so they will be cancelled outright.
Last year Peterborough half was cancelled on the day......some time after it was supposed to start......due to a member of the public calling the police stating they thought they’d seen a person with a gun near the route, near the time it was due to start.......- unfounded - I wasn’t there, but we did it 2018, (the weather was awful) the start was delayed then due to something very similar.....and it’s happened previously......I understand none of the claims were substantiated.....
Me thinks the local people are not that keen on it..........

I remember that from last year. Bizarre unsettling incident. You wonder if they knew more about something than they let on. That’s what we thought at the time anyway!
Yes, and while we were going round lots of people were ignoring the road closures, driving in amongst the runners, I was surprised at the amount of police officers with each marshal point.....
Anyway, the beast from the east didn’t stop cambridge.....so fingers crossed! Hope you’re doing ok, I’ve got a touch of shin splints which is driving me crackers....but still on course at the mo......🤞whether i’ll reach my goal of 2:30 or less, who knows....the main aim will be to get round!

I’ve had only one race postponed a few years ago because of the weather. It was snow. The race was postponed from December to March from memory and they gave us notice two days before. But I guess it depends on the event and organisers.
I have a race on Sunday so I’ll be keeping a close eye on the weather and updates!
Me too (lots on here) for Sunday’s London Winter Run.
I guess there should be plenty of shelter from the wind between buildings in London. Having said that, the combination of wind and rain is going to make for an unpleasant wait at the start and a miserable walk back to collect baggage (which is a long way accoeding to most reviews I've read). Time to dig out something substantial that I don't mind jettisoning on the start line!
I just posted this link. londonwinterrun.co.uk/news/...
