Plea for advice anyone who’s run in organised events 🙏🙏🙏

Major wobble and panic happening here. It’s suddenly dawned on me that I’m turning up at an actual HM event without a buddy and no idea what to expect.

Tried looking on the event page for info about water stations etc and there’s nothing other than the route.

It’s only three weeks away.

How soon before the event would I realistically expect to get my race number and info?

I think nerves have focused on this and hung on.

😫😳

Hi! Please don't worry, you will be fine and have a great time 🥰

Am I right in thinking that you are doing the Cheshire Half? The info you are looking for is on their Covid safety measures page. It says that the race packs will be posted to you, and from experience I'd say that you will get your pack about a week before the race. As for water stations they say there will be just one on the course, sadly they have not indicated it on their map as you have found! They suggest you might want to carry your own water, and I think it is well worth your while to get used to doing this, as it is likely to become the norm for race events.

Here is a link to the Covid info page: cheshirehalf.com/covid-19-s... You might find it useful to follow the Cheshire Half on Facebook, and you should check to make sure that you are receiving their emails, as they will be emailing race day participant info soon.

Be sure you are prepared for your race - make a list (we call this a 'faffage list' 😊 - search for that on our 'Posts' page and you should find some examples!) of everything you need, and you'll be fine! And you'll have a brilliant day 😊😊😊

Let the faffage commence! We have here what we call a “faff-o-meter”. Invented by our old friend Poppypug. Do have a search on here for it 😁

I gave up sorting my stuff out early as it was like the Hokey Cokey In, out, shake it all about sorta thing 🙈. I leave it to the day or two before the event now to save driving myself mad

Pops talked about the perils of the “safe place”. Hers (ultimately) was the bread bin 😁

I think the routine of getting your gear ready the night before should be a calming ritual. It is, if you’ve done your washing and you’re not forced to drag stuff out the laundry bin and do the sniff test. Not that I’ve ever done that of course 😁☺️☺️☺️

Hi misswobble and thanks for the reply. Today I’m researching “faffage” and looking at calming lists!

I already enjoy putting gear ready the night before 🤦🏼‍♀️(it’s the little things)😂 because I tend to run early. Er as for dragging things out of the wash…☺️☺️🙋‍♀️😊😊

My faffage rate hit max on the Faff-o-meter when did my first marathon in winter, that involved an overnight stay 😱. You pack for cold 🥶 and not-so-cold. Long trousers, capris or shorts, tee, long sleeve or vest. So it goes on til you’ve got a mountain of stuff. Then you start trying to rationalise it at home the night before (in my case). When I’d reduced it down to two rucksacks I was satisfied. However, when I got to the hotel, having two bags drove me nuts as you could be sure what I wanted was in the other bag !😁. I was constantly rummaging and ended up tipping out both bags 🙈

Now it’s one bag only! That’s it. The End 😃. If I forget something then it’s tough 💩

For the sake of your sanity travel light 🙂👍

Yep. I’m hoping to just have to decide hat or no hat.
