Too frosty to run today...

I had to cancel my run today because it was far too frosty and cold! It's -1 here in Bath (was -2 yesterday)! A runner friend did go for a run yesterday, slipped and grazed all his left side quite badly! And I don't think I'll be able to run tomorrow either because it's will be far too frosty early in the morning when I usually run, then I am working all day, and then going to a choir rehearsal in the evening. We'll see how the weather is on Wednesday...but because I haven't run properly in weeks due to health and now the weather, I have noticed that my motivation to run is very low at the moment. Any advice to get back into your running groove again???

Keep moving... loads of strength and flex ideas on the S and F forum...plan the routes for the better weather... do a bit of sale surfing to snap up some running bargains for the Spring and Summer...

Not sure where you are on the programme. but maybe log your runs so far and how you found them.. with the route you took... great reading for the long evenings next winter:)

ooooh I love all those ideas! I especially love the idea of logging my runs - I journal anyway, so that is a great addition! :-D

Can you get to some grass to run on Redcello? I’m in Bristol and it was very frosty here today too (plus PR was cancelled at the weekend). Today I ran on our local Common and even though it was slippery in places, I wore trail shoes and took it easy and managed a lovely crisp 7k. Are you near Victoria Park?

Try to stay motivated - think of the Bath Half! 😀👍

I am about a half hour walk away from Victoria Park and I don't drive yet unfortunately otherwise that would be an ideal place! There's a much smaller green just down the road from me but it is very small and doesn't feel that safe when it's dark round there... :-)

I totally understand you not wanting to risk running in the dark if you don’t feel safe. None of the runs I do I’d fancy after dark.

Well hopefully the frost has gone for a bit now anyway. 🤞

yeah there's no frost today, thank goodness! :-)

You'll find a way! It's likely not your motivation that's suffering, more that it's genuinely difficult at this time of year, especially midweek. Can you squeeze in a really short run? Just 2 or 3km? It might be enough to remind yourself of that lovely post-run feeling that keeps us all going. And of course Bath HM is the ultimate motivator :)

I finally went out on a run this morning! Had a stinking cold though, but at least I went out and did it and ran 2K! :-D

That's REAL motivation! Well done - but be sure to take care of yourself now with that cold. Feel better soon.

Fairy Woods might be ok to run in if dry enough?

ah it's a 45 minute walk from where I live unfortunately and I don't drive at the moment. I can't wait to pass my test in March! :-)

Yeah short ones can be good if u can... Don't feel like u have to do over 5k. Maybe stretching? 🤔 Swimming?

Redcello41 profile image

Why didn't I think of that? I did 2K this morning, and then if it gets all frosty again I might try swimming! :-D

😊. I've only recently realised that every run doesn't need to be 5k plus 😂😂

Yeah same hahaha! 😃 and you can replace a run with some sort of cross training like swimming! 😃

Cold is ok. You can layer up Icy, dark mornings do little to recommend themselves though, and it’s difficult to be enthusiastic

Roll on spring 😃

Yeah I cannot wait for Spring and Summer! Before I got into running, I preferred the winter over summer (weird, I know...) but now that I'm running, I hate the winter and love spring and summer! :-D

We can only do what we can. But keep moving is always good. If I keep my body moving then I’m always up for a run, like a really long warmup 🙂

Do squats/lunges every time you go to the loo or wait for the kettle to boil. Every time you go upstairs, do a few heel drops. Do balance exercises wherever. I’ve seen myself do some exercises with tins of soup while in the kitchen waiting for something to boil 💪🙄 It all counts.

And reading posts here regularly ALWAYS motivates me to go for a run 🤗🏃‍♀️🙂

Yeah I really need to get into strength training again, will definitely try your suggestions out. Every little bit helps! :-D

I found myself running home from the post box today 😁

Brilliant! I did that a few months ago but it was from work to home (which is usually a downhill 40 min walk!). I just felt like running, I was still in my uniform, had my massive rucksack on my back and didn't even have my running shoes on (which my hips paid for later!) but I enjoyed it even though it was very spontaneous! :-D

Spontaneous is good! 😃

I still had my runners on as i’d been out with the dogs beforehand Ever ready 😁🏃‍♀️
