Well as I’m getting myself organised for Christmas secret Santa and in light of training for next years little 26.2 miles stroll round London 😬🙄. I thought I’d add wireless ear pods, wicking socks and a water vest ‘thingy’.

OMG how many are there out there! So help from those who have used and tried please. What would you recommend. At the moment I’m using the Apple wired headphones that come with the phone. Nike socks that are always very damp at the end of a run and occasionally I carry a water bottle. But as I’m going a bit further I’m aware I need more.

Also suggestions for ?? gels. I loath jelly babies as too sweet, mouth too dry for my usual protein bar. I’d prefer something clean’ So would value your thoughts please.

Hi

I can't say about the other things, but regarding wireless earbuds, if you want great sound I would recommend jabra, but, if you want to run outside, I would definitely recommend aftershockz. These use a different technology that allows you to hear what's happening around you, and that's really important as you need to be aware of other people or cars as you run :)

Another aftershokz fan here. I have the trekz air. I have a camel hydration pack - a cheap model that was on offer. It's OK but on a long run it does chafe my arms if I don't have sleeves which is a real disappointment. I hate gels but use tailwind in my pack or cliff bloks on an event where water is provided (so I don't have to carry a pack). I've not tried waterproof socks but do use Hilly - both monoskin and twinskin. Good luck with your list and your training 🙂

I use a Salomon Adv Skin 5 vest and love it. On "shorter" runs, I'll just use the collapsible front pocket bottles, and on longer or really warm runs, I carry a bladder in the back pouch. It is extremely comfortable - no chafing despite wearing it many hours running in the hills. The only downside, other than the cost, is that the bladder doesn't come with it (but the 2 front pocket bottles do). I can carry quite a bit of stuff in it as well which is nice for trail running.

Another recommendation for Aftershokz! Hands down, one of my best running purchases. I have the skinny Air ones because there's too much going on at my ears otherwise (buff, Trekz and also sunglasses in the summer) but the Titanium model are perfectly good if you don't have such issues.

I hate gels, I only use them in events for portability and on-the-go use (though a lot still seems to go down my trousers). Otherwise I take a flapjack or similar out with me. They're a very personal thing, gels...I use SIS gels, but can only stomach three flavours (cherry, lemon&lime, pink grapefruit). If you want clean however then you may be out of luck with gels, they are all a bit sticky in my experience. You're better off looking at watery fuel like Tailwind...or my favourite Active Root. I mention it a lot but no one bites 😂 Honestly, it's so tasty. I've not used any Tailwind since I first tried it at Mhor 84.

Socks, I swear by injinji toe socks for anything over 5k (I just wear cheapo reebok ones from a 5 pack in Sports Direct for any shorter runs). I've never really noticed them getting damp I have to be honest, however they aren't specifically wicking. I use them to prevent toe blisters rather than for any wicking properties.

Can't help with the water pack, I have not yet taken the plunge. I can't deal with the idea of a sweaty hump on my back yet, but may have to give in one day...

The only thing i can advise on is socks. I use Hilly Monoskin. super comfortable, no rubbing, stay dry. You can get them in very short or ankle length
